I feel like they change the targeting definition every year to keep all of us on our toes. Next year it’ll be “leading with the apex of the player’s cranium and/or making contact to the player’s lower pancreas with anything related to their arse cheek with the visible desire to slap their mom” or something stupid idk.

If you are calling penalties on intent, he should have been ejected, But if on actual penalties committed, it was a nothing burger.

It unnecessary roughness since Jayden gave himself up. It's not targeting.

The intent was there, but he completely missed Daniels.

Good damn thing he missed or he would have killed him.

So I guess everyone that had a determination of the decision was wrong. The guys that reviewed the replay, the announcers - everyone was wrong lol

What? It was called and reviewed. But, the guy's aim was so bad he completely whiffed on the forearm shiver attempt at JD's head. The ref's explanation was funny. Basically said, "There was no targeting. The player missed."

The rule is poorly named. It should be called "Illegal Contact" or something like that.

He missed Daniels thus the flag was picked up - correct call

Maybe

The larger point is what he tried to do.

Just like the targeting call against Daniels that was reversed

That shite is coached at bama.

Nobody can convince me that the historically Saban era dirty play by bama is not coached

What the idiots on here are missing is the intent of the rule. We don't wait to see if the recipient has CTE to decide if the penalty should be called.

This rule was introduced not to penalize bad hits, it was introduced to discourage players from launching and doing head to head hits that cause brain damage. It gets called fairly regularly in questionable situations that rile the fans up and not necessarily because the player had bad intentions.

This wasn't an egregious outcome, but the defensive player clearly was head hunting and launched himself with the crown of his helmet at a defenseless player who had given himself up with the intent of hurting him. Maybe there is a technicality that prevents "targeting", but completely picking that flag up and not penalizing Bama was fricked!! Not to mention that they already completely picked up the earlier flag against To'oto'o that was an even clearer targeting foul. After you finish reviewing the no-call, please post a side by side comparison of that hit and Devin White's hit on Nick Fitzgerald in the MS St game and explain to me how DW was kept out of the first half against Bama but there was no penalty on To'oto'o. After that I'll be willing to listen to your arguments.

Until then, STFU

It wasn't reviewed upstairs. I'm pretty convinced you haven't bothered rewatching the game or a clip of the play. It's plain as day he made contact.

Look, I am not going to beg for calls and wouldnt do so even had we lost but it should have been a flag and an ejection.

There was a launch that led to direct head contact with the forearm.

If you watch slo mo JDs head does a little bounce off the grass, luckily it wasnt a hard hit or it would have likely knocked Daniels out and we lose. It was bullshite to pick that flag up and not call targeting. QBs have lost thier careers to that type of hit.
