Why Does Daniels Get Sacked So Much

I didn't realize they are at the top of the SEC for sacks allowed. With all that being said, I love how the young O-Line has developed. I just didn't realize Daniels had been sacked THAT much.

He holds on to the ball too long and rarely throws it away.
Eta Don’t know why the downvotes. It’s not debatable. Kelly says it. How many times did he throw the ball away against Bama?

Young OL and sometimes he runs but doesn’t get back to the LOS. Counts as a sack.
ETA: I have the game on in the background now. At about 4:25 left in the first JD tries to run and gets pushed out 2 yd behind the LOS - Borné says To’oto’o is credited with the sack, loss of 2 yd.

OL is still raw, but developing. He was holding the ball way too long - especially the first 5-6 games of the season. Also, he likes to run...many of the sacks are -1 and -2 yarders.

He can sometimes hold onto the ball too long. But the way that he’s been making his decisions to run or pass lately, I’m not making any complaints

Slightly slower reads; remember anytime a QB is tackled behind the line, it is recorded as a sack. So even on designed runs, if he is hit and dropped in the backfield, it is counted as a sack.

Mainly indecisive in the passing game and holding it to long. Also when he escapes the pocket and starts to run, if he is tackled behind the line of scrimmage it’s a sack, so those numbers are going to be slightly inflated some.

Young OL
This is the most exciting thing about this team in my opinion. Everyone is so freaking young and look how good we are. If we can lock down the players and get them to commit to staying at LSU, we will be an absolute crushing monster in college football.

Even after all the lost yards from sacks he has over 600 rushing yards. So he makes up for it

He doesn't throw the ball away much. And he's also a scrambling qb, he's going to have that stat.

I think one of his weak points is still there -- he doesn't have a great feel for the pocket, moving up and keeping his eyes downfield at the same time, for instance.

He was sacked 4 times against Ole Miss for -16yds, but he ran for 121 yds/3TDs.
He was sacked 6 times against Bama for -15yds, but he ran for 95 & 1TD.

As good as a scrambler as he is his pocket presence is terrible. I have seen him literally move right into the defender numerous times when the pocket moves. Burrow was one of the best in the pocket Daniels is below Avg in the pocket.

When he is sacked he is wrapped up or tackled no vicious blind side hits causing fumbles

Early in the game he ran towards the bama sideline and instead of throwing it away he took a 2 yard sack...to me that was not a true sack. I actually think our line has played great in the last 3-4 games.

This is why we start so slow. Once we fall behind or the game is on the line, his adrenaline kicks in and he plays on instinct, which is what he should always do. He overthinks early on.
He’s trying to avoid interceptions.

its a pretty easy choice deciding between a few more sacks or a few more int's. Its a delicate balance. Year 2 in system and year 2 growth of his rapport with WR's and improved OL play will be huge.

does being sacked count as a rushing attempt?

Yea it sucks.
I think he’s the best runner of any qb in the nation. Or that I’ve seen. Great instincts and quick as lightening.

This has started to stand out to me more and more when he does this. I don't know why he doesn't throw the ball away in those situations. This turns a 3rd and 5 into a 3rd an 7 or 8.
ETA: I'm talking specifically about when has scrambled toward the sideline and isn't going to get the corner. Instead of surrendering himself and casually stepping out of bounds, just flip it out of bounds and save to 2-3 yard loss. There is no risk in that scenario. If the defender is on his heels or if he doesn't feel 100% confident, sure hold onto it.
