The real reason we won the game is hustle

LSU wanted it more.
Hustle, and aggressiveness, have been a hallmark of Saban teams, but that is gone since they started playing flag football on offense.
Look at LSU hustling all over the field. Josh Williams is always going all out to try to get back in the action and make a block. He reminds me of Blucher trying to get one last piece of Napoleon's arse.
Contrast that with Bama's #9. A TD poster pointed out that, on Emery's TD run, #9 just slowed down because he thought his teammate had Emery at about the ten. Had he hustled he would have prevented that TD.
It was the same all over the field on Saturday - Bama players just doing their job, while LSU players were taking responsibility for the overall success of the team.

I think this team knew they could/should win. They played to win. They did not play scared.

There were a couple of plays in the first half where hustling stopped Alabama TD’s and they had to settle for field goals.
In the words of the great philosopher Clyde Edward-Helaire. Throw your heart across the line and the ball will follow.

My biggest take away from Kelly's short tenure here is the communication between coaches and players and the communication on the field is so much better. Kelly even admitted this is why they lost to FSU because everyone was new and the communication breakdowns especially on the defensive side was not good. How many times the last few seasons did we see guys wide open 50 yard down the field and our players looking at each other? Too many times

You can't talk about hustle without mentioning Major Burns. Him chasing down the Bama receiver to save the touchdown took a massive personal effort. When the defense held for a field goal really showed that they were in this fight and weren't letting Bama take anything without punching back.

Effort has been there all year. An attitude with a chip on your shoulder hasn't. We beat them b/c we were the aggressor. Major kudos to the players.

I think it had more to do with execution than hustle.

A prime example: the play were our o-line pushes the pile for J. Emery Jr. It would make a great photo. I know E. Jones Jr. was one of the linemen on the camera side but there were others.

MAJOR BURNS got burned but chased Gibbs down and saved a TD. He showed incredible hustle and heart. His hustle saved 4 points and directly impacted outcome of game. Ton of respect for the kid

I was just thinking this, if you dont really care, you just let the play die. I didn’t see anyone half a$$ any play all night! It was a beautiful thing!

The real reason we won is because we scored more points than they did. BTW did you celebrate with a handy? I did.

I think the players were in better shape too. Past LSU teams couldn’t hold up in OT against Bama

We were quicker
We were stronger
We were better disciplined
They were outcoached
They had officiating on their side and still lost
WE WERE BETTER!

The entire team has completely bought in.

No doubt but did you do a little snake handling to celebrate?

I cannot imagine what it took for Burns to recover and chase down the fastest person on Alabama’s team. Fatigued. Just guts and heart. You could see complete maximum effort in the way he was running. So much respect for him for not quitting on that play or hanging his head.

Major Burns just demonstrated what accountability looks like. He clearly was not in the right defensive position on the throw…got beat. Last year, that’s a TD with DBs look of exasperation…pointing fingers at each other. This year, he owned the mistake and gave 100% all out effort to atone for it by chasing down the WR and turning 7 points into only 3 points. That one play will be remembered as a classic example of the difference between 2022 and 2021.

Well said. Great point on accountability. Culture matters.
