re: 3 terrible calls last night by the refs

#’s 2 and 3 were good calls.
Wow! I just realized what “targeting” call you are referring to. That was also an excellent call. Daniels waited too long to slide, and the Bama guy was already into his motion when Daniels slid. I’ve seen that called more often than not, but it would have been a terrible call.
The officials were great last night, and there are only two kinds of people who don’t think so, Bama losers and LSU losers.

Please site this rule where a player without possession who is out of bounds overrides a player in bounds with possession?
“Cite” And the player in bounds did not have possession - not even close.

Don’t forget the blatant non holding call on Perkins on the Young scramble and long TD throw.

Perkins was being held on the collar by 54 as Young scooted past to throw the late touchdown.
THIS was a bad call.

I had a bigger problem with the hit on Daniels during the first drive. They called a penalty but did not even review for targeting. I thought the backer dipped his head down and put the crown into JD’s chin. Maybe I’m wrong but thought it was worth a closer look.

He did NOT knock it from his hand, all he had to do is touch it and he killed it. It's a terrible rule.
I never saw proof that he actually touched it. If someone has proof I’d love to see it.

Yeah, Wingo’s finger pretty clearly moves. It would have been a tough call on Bama late in the game, but the rule is the rule. If you’re going to stop thaw game and review it, at least get the call correct.

At the time the ball touched out of bounds (Bama player) absolutely

Wow ok. Refs did everything in their power to give bama the game and LSU still won and you come out with great game by refs

The nonsense about Brooks not having “complete” possession is just made up. It’s a bullshite interpretation, extrapolating from the rules about a completed pass.

Dont' forget early in the game Henry Too Too I believe it was, was called for roughing the passer but it should have been targeting when the top of his helmet smacked under Daniels facemask...
Perkins does that he is called for targeting and tossed...

If so, uh no he didn’t miss him.
Exactly. I was mad when they used that, because you can clearly see JD’s head get bounced off the turf.

So if a player catches the ball on his knees does he have to get up and make a football move? Or is he just down?
He doesn’t have to make a football move. He has to maintain control of the ball long enough to make a football move.
The example of a player who catches a pass on his knees is actually a good comparison here.
Imagine a player on his knees catches a pass, and then a defender hits him and the ball pops out. How do you decide whether that’s a completion (down at the spot because his knee was down) or an incomplete pass? Now apply that exact same standard to this play, before the Bama player touched the ball. A fumble recovery has the same standard for possession vs. loose ball.
Having two hands on the ball alone is not enough to gain possession, as many offensive linemen have found out after strip/sacks.
Note that he also has to maintain control of the ball all the way to the ground to have possession, just like he would if he were making a catch. The only difference for a fumble recovery is that if he doesn’t maintain control all the way to the ground, it’s still a live ball and he can recover it again. As long as the player and ball are still inbounds.

eah, I don't understand how anyone can call this a bad call. Call it a bad rule all you want.
Once lsu had two hands on it with his knee on the ground, the play is dead. Nothing after that moment matters, at all.

e can thank Saban for the fourth terrible call, going for two late in the game and not converting. Had they kicked the extra points, their field goal that tied it would have wine the game (probably since there was not much time left on the clock)
You can’t know that for sure. If Bama goes up 22-17, we go for 2 when when Taylor scores TD and possibly up 8. Also, we play defense much differently of up only 1 last drive knowing FG wins and not just tie.

He didn't miss it should have been at least unnecessary roughness.

You are trying to sound intelligent by intentionally being a contrarian.
It’s not working

I agree. Pivotal plays in the game were changed due to flags and blatantly missed reviews (the tipped pass).
LSU beat Bama last night. They beat Bama AND the refs.
GEAUX TIGERS!!! LSU IS BACK BABYYY!!!

That’s an easy one. It was a terrible call.
