At the beginning of the season, Saban might have mush rushed Daniels or used a traditional spy. He still might use those concepts sometimes in the game.

But Saban and Smart invented a new method to defense QBs who can extend plays to make downfield passes: the Odd Mirror concept.

A traditional spy plays the QB independently from the rest of the defense. Similarly, the mush rush focuses on reducing QB runs independently of the remainder of the defense.

The Odd Mirror uses the defensive line to funnel the QB to a LB by giving the QB an "escape hatch" in the DL rush that leads the QB into "extending the play" right into the LB.

The Odd Mirror uses the DL to pressure the QB into escaping into the path of the LB.

They'll play coverage and contain the QB. Nothing fancy. LSU will have to be able to run the ball against a light box.

Their DB's will be in our face, it is their bread and butter. They did it in 19. They want to knock you off your route and not give the QB a clean look while hoping the pass rush gets to him.
we aren't catching many passes on the initial route anyway, so this could play into our favor if we can block for a few seconds

curious as to what you guys think is Saban’s game plan in regard to defending Daniels next Saturday

Saban in the past has instituted a mush rush to keep the QB in front of them and make him pass from the pocket. This worked on Jordan Jefferson led LSU because at that time we had a very poor passing game.

Nice try, Saban. You'll have to figure it out yourself.

It’s simple just like LSU done to Lamar Jackson.. simply take away the run and force him to pass.

He’ll squeeze the life out of our offense one way or another. I don’t think what we do on offense is gonna work well against Bama. Hoping for the best though.

They will make him throw the ball to have success. He better learn how to get the ball down field quicker and hit some of those wide open guys sooner. Bama is much better than UF and Miss. Daniels missed wide open guys and took too many sacks against Tennessee and Ole Miss. The inability to throw accurately down field or find the endzone against Tennessee, cannot be repeated. Hopefully there is improvement there or the same disappointment will follow. People won't like this because they are biased fans that do not understand that Bama is equal to Tennessee. Tennessee was exponentially better than LSU. LSU will have to play nearly perfect to have a chance, as Bama will score points against the LSU secondary.

bump and run man coverage with To'oTo"o or the safety Battle being the spy. How the offensive line handles Will Anderson and Turner will be factor in the tigers ability to move the chains. If they are able to get pressure with four or five men its going to be a long day.

Keep him in the pocket and dare him to throw over the middle and down field.

Keeping the TE in almost every play will screw this up and I don't think they have the corners to play man a lot. Alabama is gonna get put into conflict the same way they were against Tennessee

They are going to make him pay every time JD touches the ball. We will not use him as a runner as much in the first half except when it is called for to move the chains. In the second half we will need to open his running up more. This is the qb we have wanted for many years in regards to beating Saban. A mobile qb. Burrow was a generational talent. We have actually been looking for this for years. Shepard and Perilloux come to mind. We just were not willing to go all in with that style of play when it came down to it.
