It has to do with their Caste system. Patel’s are in the Hotel line of work. I’ve heard that the surname is not that large in India, but disproportionately large here per capita.

I work in finance and they also don’t pay their bills too well. Had one leave the country on me about a month ago.

They largely avoid using our financial system too. As in they aren’t owned by the banks
They pool money to get a family member a business, and he runs it and once he is successful he uses profits to get them a business all while living on the bare minimum. It’s an interesting culture. They build wealth for the entire family and have a strong work ethic. But they don’t value vacation or leisure time at all and don’t splurge on themselves. It’s good in a way but also doesn’t seem to be a fun life either.

I have no problem with this….if folks are in this country legally and want to start a business, I am good with that. I find them to be generally hard-working, likeable folks.

I have an Indian friend who’s family name is Patel, and they own multiple hotels in Baton Rouge.
