He replaces the late William Hurt who played the character in The Incredible Hulk back in 2008.

Kinda hard to have The Thunderbolts without Ross, amirite?

Besides, Chadwick Boseman's family was clamoring for Marvel to recast T'Challa, not just write the character out of the MCU entirely.

Casting Harrison Ford rather than Elliot strikes me as just "nerd-fan-cred-bait" (pardon the bulky portmanteau).

"How do we get the juice back into the MCU after 3 years of duds? I know, nerds like MCU, right? And nerds like Star Wars, right? Let's cast Harrison Ford as Thunderbolt Ross...See, it doesn't matter that Ford is an ornery, disengaged son-of-a-bitch who will need cue cards to remember his lines. MCU fans in their pre-faded Captain America t-shirts from Target will fill the seats again."

If only they'd recast that dead horse of a topic.

I guess William Hurt isn't an icon of his race, right?

He was Ross before, should have been Ross again.

It’s strange/hilarious how much it bothers some people that they chose not to immediately recast an actor who died.

Ya never know. They kind of caught lightning in a bottle with the Avengers casting. Maybe Ford will step up for this one. I really think they need to nail the casting for the Fantastic Four and X-Men though. That might keep things a bit fresh.
