Usually I tend to dislike franchises but this is one I wish would've happened.

But it made $211.6 million at the BO, against a budget of $150 million. $60 mil is a death knell profit for Hollywood.

Apparently there is a prequel in the works.

I thought this could be a Bond-like series, like Ian Fleming. I mean there's 20 books of source material already out there.

Saw it for the first time in the past year. All I could think of when it was over was "why the frick haven't I seen this masterpiece before now?" I randomly picked it out one night, and I'm glad I did.

The end scene where they pan waaaay out and the ship is turning toward the other on the far horizon combined with that music is an all timer for me.

Easily one of the GOAT "ship and sails" type of movie. It's so fricking good.

It gets brought up a good bit on here, and I think someone posted an article one of the last times it was talked about. It was about the set pieces in some country (South America maybe?). It was either about this movie, or a similarly-themed one, but I thought it was M&C.

Either way, great, great movie.

I have to re-watch this. I saw it when it was new and thought "meh".....I had to have missed something because this board seems to love the shite out of this movie.

It is that rare movie that knows exactly what it is and doesn't try to be anything but what it wants to be. It is, in that regard, perfect.

Take a generic MCU movie and they want it to be a comedy, drama, action adventure, possibly with some political aspects thrown in. More often than not they don't quite hit all of the marks and the movie is uneven. Master and Commander knows what they are going for and concentrates on that.
