What's funny is either the next play or the play after was a backwards screen pass that skipped off the ground and the refs blew it dead.
This one blew my mind. I can understand the human element of interpretation when it comes the overturns. But that fricking pass was 3 yards behind Richardson’s release. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

How about Devin White?

Yeah - that one is still a mystery to me - who blew the ball dead?? It was completely obvious it was a lateral - but even the guy who picked it up just stood thare.
Does a full second of a ball carrier standing still with nobody attempting to make any kind of play indicate that everyone agrees the play is over? and that is what brought the whistle?
Honestly don't know - and have never seen anything like it.

The Perkins Sack and Forced Fumble Call by easy money
The only way he could be ruled not a fumble is if the pass was batted down by Perkins causing it to go backwards. Richardson left the field believing it was a fumble
It was.
His hand went forward.
Ball didn't...at any point...on any replay.
That means the BALL was not moving forward (which is what is required). If the ball slipped out of his hand just as his arm moved forward and did not go forward itself, fumble.

This was one of those plays/calls that gives instant replay/review a bad rap. In full speed, it really looked like the ball was knocked out before his hand started coming forward. But, in slow-mo replay, the hand just barely starts to come forward before the ball is knocked loose. The final ruling is technically correct. But I don’t believe this was the intent of instant-replay/review.

I hate the rule. Any other ball carrier the ball gets punched out it’s a fumble. It should be same for a QB, even if the arm is moving forward.
I agree. I know it’s not the rule, but if you hit the ball, it should be a fumble until the ball leaves the QB’s hand on a pass. If you hit the arm and the pass gets off going forward…even if it just flutters down 5 feet away…that should be a pass.
I hate that a ball can be swatted from a QB’s grip before the point of release an have it be incomplete.

I thought it was a fumble but the bigger bull shite call was the Thomas catch that was overturned.

looked like it could go either way
I didn't think there was enough to overturn it.

The initial call was incomplete though

It was close…looked like it could go either way depending on the angle…I personally thought the hand was moving forward

You realize that now with replay, neither team usually gets screwed. Most of the time, the replay gets it right.
Try not to look at things through purple and gold glasses. Too much emotion distorts reality.

Should have stayed with call on field

there was nothing in that replay that was indisputable video evidence

The announcers thought the call was incomplete. They were wrong.

I noticed they didn’t bring in Matt Austin to opine on that clearly bullshite call.
It was crystal clear on replay Perkins clearly separated the ball from his hand before it came forward. I think in NFL officiating circles it’s referred to as ‘the empty hand’. That was 1000% a fumble and LSU needs to complain to the SEC office and demand a review.

He knocked it out of his hand
Arm was not going forward

except it really wasn’t considering the motion in the full weight where he pushed to land on top of him. That is roughing the passer by definition. It’s called all the time in the NFL.
This. Anytime you full-weight body slam a QB after the ball is out there’s a better than 50% chance you are getting rung up. Especially true if an official is right there. Like it or not, it’s like targeting. Defensive players have to know when to pull off. It’s part of the game and it’s on you if you get the flag for it.

That being said, the Roughing Penalty on the INT was a pretty BS call as well.
I dont know where some of you all come up with these opinions... That absolutely was RTP and one of the dumbest plays of the night. If he had just hit JD and fell on him I I would agree with you. But he wrapped the QB up, picked him up, and body crushed him. That would have been RTP even if JD had the ball.

His hand was moving forward, after Perkins knocked the ball out of it, not before. His hand was moving back as it was hit.
