Sounds like the suspect was a 15yo male who tried to off himself. On the police scanner right after he was taken into custody, a LEO said he had an open wound on the front of the skull with brain matter visible. He was still breathing though.

Heard it live on the scanner when it happened.
They also found a dead teenager in a home when checking homes.
So...it could end up that the shooter killed the teen in the home, then shot the police officer while he was sitting in his car...then went on the greenway and shot various people and then locked himself in the barn where he shot himself.

I live in Cary, just west of Raleigh and our greenways are fantastic. Lots of people everyday use them for exercise and enjoy the outdoors. It's quite shocking that something like this happened.
