re: Anyone aware of common issues with 19-21 F150s with the 5.0 10 speed?

For 1/2 tons short bed is now the 5.5ft. Full size is 6.5 and long is 8ft.

What is a "long bed" then?

I've seen some of your posts on the OB about your truck. Too expensive to fix?

Still waiting on information. Regardless though, it will need new tires and front-end suspension work soon for regular maintenance. Looking at another 2500 or so dollars. The only way I do that is if I drop a reman motor in it which the game plan will be drive it for the next decade.

Doesn't Ford and GM share the same 10 speed transmission? GM just doesn't put it in all their trucks?

8ft to me is a long bed, full size is 6.5ft. And as far I know Yota doesn't offer that in a crewcab.
I don't know how a 6.5' is full size when you can't even put a 4 wheeler and a toolbox in the bed and shut the tailgate.
With that said, the 2023 Tundra is available in crewmax with a 6.5' bed.
I wouldn't buy the first year of any model from any manufacturer though, even Toyota...

Did they offer that in previous years? I am not getting a turbo V6 even if it is from Yota.

After looking at your thread on the OB, why you would want to torture yourself with another domestic vehicle is beyond me.
Get a Toyota for the reliability. The crappy mpg is the price you pay but rebuilding transmissions and dead cylinders at 120k is not a part of the Toyota ownership experience.

Because they don't offer what I want.

No.
If you're hung up on a 6.5' bed then a double cab (Toyota speak for supercab) is the only option in the previous generation.
I own one (double cab) and with the generous room and normal rear doors it is pretty useful. I have the double cab long bed and even with a 32" toolbox I still have a usable bed. They are hard to find and can be a challenge to park sometimes.
Good luck hope you find something you don't have to work on.

So far the 10 speed seems to have good reviews.
I have a 2017 f150 3.5 ecoboost with the 10 speed transmission with 68k miles. The 10 speed trans gave me problems after I bought it used in 2018. Ford finally figured out a trans module upgrade that kept it from doing crazy bad shifting patterns. I tow with it and have not had engine or trans problems since the trans update a couple of years ago.

I’ve never had an issue with a GM power train in my life and I’ve put some GM trucks through hell
Posted on 10/9/22 at 10:56 am to GREENHEAD22
The new GM trucks and SUVs are total trash. Two friends with new Sierras had transmissions take a shite at 5,000-10,000 miles.
Posted on 10/9/22 at 11:01 am to supatigah
I need a full crew, have two kids.
I had the Range plug in but didn't get it until 90k miles.
Delta - the new GMs are trash, you are almost guaranteed to have the transmission and motor go out on you on the 14-16s at around the 90-150k mile mark. I am a lifelong GM guy, when I sold my 01 it had almost 280k and was just starting to burn oil. Only did maintenance and had to change an alternator and fuel pump. My 12 was good but didn't keep it all that long, sold at 80k miles. My 16 has been crap.
My brother's transmission went out yesterday in his 16 Chevy.

I drive an expedition, 2017 model last of the truck version and I love it
3.5L Ecoboost with the 6 speed, no engine auto shut off BS
my dad has a 2021 Expedition limited with the Ten Speed, it is nice. The straight line power is fine for such a big vehicle but just driving around it feels like it is constantly shifting. it is subtle though
if I buy another truck I am buying a Toyota Tundra. recently drove a buddy’s 2021 and I really like it

Bought my 2019 F150 LWB XLT 5.0 new Memorial Day 2019
- will turn 25k miles in the next month or so
- delivers ~22 mpg on interstate
- 15-17 mpg around town or towing my boat
Love the effortless power and torque...and it sounds like a real American V-8 at high rpm.
Was wary of the 10 speed auto initially but it has performed well so far.
Change oil & filter every 5k w/Motorcraft synthetic blend.

They have a tendency to consume oil at a higher rate than any other engine. I have to add a quart/month.

The only real issues they've had is oil pressure problems due to worn cam bearing journals, caused by excessive miles between oil changes. While the oil will still technically be within spec, there's a lot of combustion byproducts in it by 10k+ miles.
You sure you aren’t referring to the 5.4L Triton? It has this issue and is notorious for it.
Anyway, I have a ‘22 with the 5.0L. Only have 600 miles on it, so I’m no help here. But the more you research the 5.0L, the less concerns you should have with it. I love it so far, and it sounds fantastic.

Yea the 5.0 is the reason I am going Ford, the 10 speed is my larger concern.
