Honestly I haven’t been to the theater since before covid. I was banned from them for a while.
I’ve actually preferred the release to streaming services. I can have cheaper popcorn and candy without other people around me being complete jack offs.

Hollywood had a horrible couple of years with Covid. Then push this garbage to struggling movie theaters to try and sell.

If you want dudes to go watch a gay movie then it needs to be a good story, funny, and have hot lesbians that are topless at one point. There should also be no male gayness in the movie. Then maybe just maybe you might get a dude to go see it because his gal wants to see it.

How's this shite my fault when this is the first I've heard of the movie? His marketing game must be complete dogshit. Not that it matters, though. I wouldn't have gone to see the damn thing anyway.

If it was instead starring Dan Levy, a nice guy that people like and actually created a great show, guarantee it would have at minimum made another two million dollars opening. I would have at least considered going if Dan Levy had made it, but Billy Eichner, frick no. The thing is no one but the Woke like Billy Eichner and this movie seems extremely obnoxious.

How many straight men voluntarily go see a straight Rom Com? Its usually their GF or wife dragging them to is. Well women like rom coms because they can see themselves as the main character and relate. Women can't do that with a gay rom com.
So you literally alienate 60% of the population immediately. Then the promotion for the film was "this is a movie made for gay people by gay people" alienating them more.
Couple that with the decline in all movies ticket sales in general and you get a flop of epic proportions.

It could be an absolutely wonderful love story that will stand the test of time, but all parties involved chose to pursue something very niche and sell it as mainstream. Anyone’s morality aside, this was a marketing experiment that just didn’t pan out the way they wanted.
That said, having some understanding of the economics here, BE probably waived a considerable amount of upfront fees in exchange for back-end, and it didn’t pan out.
Kevin Hart got some backlash from his target market for trying to pump it too.
