Eh, you're reaching here. Since the pandemic Marvel has released:

Black Widow
Eternals
Spider-Man
Doctor Strange
Thor

One of those is a movie where the lead is a female, another is a group movie, and the other three are led by male heroes.

Black Panther is only a female because of the passing of Chadwick Boseman.

The next two years you have:

Ant-Man
Guardians
The Marvels
Blade
Captain America
Thunderbolts
Deadpool
Fantastic Four

Again, pretty male heavy.

Plus several recent TV Shows:

Loki
Falcon/Winter Solider
Moon Knight
Hawkeye

Good God you idiots melt so easily over the dumbest shite. More women in the MCU doesn’t mean some target shift it just means more women and BP only has Shuri because Chadwick died. Thor was still about Thor with him being the same goofy character he was in the last movie.

We also had MCU shows like Loki, Hawkeye, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Moonknight as well as a Daredevil show coming. Not to mention all he main face of the MCU lately has been Strange

Has Hollywood ever deified another actor like this before?

The guy was a fantastic actor, but it’s a little much, IMO.

I think it has a lot to do with the circumstances surrounding his death. It was so out of the blue to the public and it only later became known he had been battling cancer for years privately (without seeking sympathy, headlines, w/e) while he continued to work. Pretty admirable.

He also played some rather significant roles in addition to Black Panther:
Jackie Robinson
James Brown
Thurgood Marshall

See, i dont get this logic. Chadwick's death was awful no doubt. But wouldn't it be great to pay tribute to him by recasting the role with a strong black male actor?

No, especially since the "Black Panther" isn't an individual like Iron Man or Spider-Man. It's a moniker.

He was also supposedly a really good dude, which is rare in Hollywood.

But if we bring actual reality into this, how can people like the OP LARP as an aggrieved and victimized class like the minority groups they simultaneously love to tell to shut up and stop whining about "muh oppression?"

It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to frame a world where only 75% of the biggest franchise in the world features or stars men, mostly white, as some affront or attack on them....Has to be exhausting

More proof that blacks and womens can't get by without the white man, or at least that's the way it is in the eyes of Disnay's MSheU.

What do you call taking a legitimately awesome, original black character, establishing him as awesome and then abandoning that to put him into the role of a white man? It's called believing the black man can't succeed on his own laurels. Pathetic and insulting is what that is.

Falcon is great, and now he is no more.

MSheU, like Bronc, is racist AF.

When did i say i was victimized, pussy? I am merely pointing out a pretty clear shift in demographics.

This is exactly what I was waiting for. The fact that I point out something that is changing (maybe for the worse for marvel's interests going forward), the social warriors come to pounce on bigots like me!!1!

“We continuing his legacy by replacing him”

I just Don’t think most people buy it. It looks like exactly what it is. Them trying to keep the gravy train going.

There was speculation and concern about Chadwick's health at least six months before he died.

Your stupid thread title is literally "is Marvel forgetting their target audience" which is implied as white men, so yeah, you are whining like a little bitch.

Especially considering the strong majority of the Marvel universe is still populated by lead characters of that demographic.

Black Panther and Captain Marvel are also 2 of the biggest non-Avengers movies in the universe, so I would argue they arent wrong in broadening their representation to bring in a wider audience.

You come off like when OML claimed Disney+ was dying from wokism and then needed to be pointed out to him they are the fastest growing streaming service and keep beating forescasts

And I think you're wrong. I think they could have recast the role with an open and honest process that paid Chadwick the respect he deserved. Cynical talk about gravy trains has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, that wouldn't have pissed anyone off.

You say this as if NOT recasting T'Challa didn't piss anyone off. They should have pushed back the release and recast and now the only way to get T'Challa back is to do some BS multiverse wizardry.

Bro. Read what I said in the OP. I didnt mention race ONCE. Yet, here you are, trying to call me out by being rAcIsT.

I am stating that men watch marvel movies. Men are seeing more and more female lead characters taking the helm of previously-owned male roles. And in the other instances, men are shown as weak or stupid or morally inferior. This is a RECENT trend.

I will state this again. I didnt mention race ONE TIME in my post.

But go ahead and believe what you want because you already have your mind made up that i'm a racist sexist bigot pig, right?

You added the white part in there, racist. I think it was implied that the majority audience of both comics and comic book movies is men. That's not a stretch. You have to be an imbecile to not recognize that.......oh wait.

You could put a Marvel logo on a literal pile of dog excrement and enough would lap it up to demand a sequel.

Same with Star Wars. Same with all of the other mediocre garbage modern day Disney gets fat off of through NONE of their own creativity or ingenuity.

I don't disagree it would look like this IF they would have kept with the current release schedule. I think they should have pushed the movie off a few years and recast. We're now going to miss out on any good T'Challa stories.

At this point, they made their decision and we'll see where it goes from there.

That's not a tribute. That's moving forward as if you didn't lose an actor that was an icon to his race.

The way they're doing it, building a film around the loss of that person, with turmoil, visual reminders of the loss to Wakanda, showing the journey that leads to someone taking up his mantle, that's a tribute.

Not, "The role of Black Panther will now be played by John David Washington."

I swear you're a contrarian or just have the worst imaginable takes.

Spider Man was really good but at this point I'm out with these series and movies
She Hulk is horrible
Without the main character I don't see how Black Panther works unless they are shifting all the focus to Namor and than you can move Black Panther to the series genre

GOTG is going to be another comedy where they kill off most of them

Eventually they'll reboot and you'll get more T'Challa, Iron Man, and Steve Rogers stories. Which is the same as them putting the current Wakanda series on the shelf and waiting for the audience to be comfortable with someone replacing Boseman.

If the MCU is in the spiraling decline that this board assumes that it's in, we won't have to wait a decade for the reboot.
