Hey now, I've been told he is fast. Which helps if you are getting beat on every play after you turn the ball over.

He was fast... then he tore his ACL.

And even when he was fast, he didn't exactly inspire confidence.

Saw we lost the ball 54 times in the first 45 mins

That’s actually impressive

He needs to understand that as an international manager your system needs to be adjustable. You have a limited player pool and need to adjust your system based on the players available. It’s not like club soccer where you can go out and buy the players that fit your system.

I’ve been saying that about him for a while

It’s the typical square peg into a round hole

We don’t have the players to play the system he wants to at a high level. Most countries don’t. That takes a complete buy in at the youth levels and since most our best youngsters are in overseas academies it’s not going to happen due to a plethora of club philosophies

I don't understand why Gregg feels we have to be Barcelona Yes our talent is better than before but USA historically grinds out results by being physical, well-conditioned, solid defensively and at keep while taking advantage of good positioning and set pieces when opportunity strikes. Sure we can boss the midfield better than before but some games don't call for that. He seems unable to adjust his tactics for individual games.

It took a total buy in for Spain to do it at all levels

Again, Pefok should be in camp, but if he was there today, I don't think that fixes out shots on target issue today.

Uhh, it would have massively made a difference in the 7' with a Dest assist, and maybe would have charged the team to do better throughout.

Anyone watch post-match comments? Has Greggg come out with more "I'm smarter than all of you" brain-busting impudence?

We have the players to play it competently, we just don't have the depth beyond those players... and that's definitely a problem.

We're in a spot heading into this tournament to where if everyone is healthy, we can dictate the play against all but like 8 teams in the field. But if one or two players get hurt, we're fricked... And one or two players will get hurt considering this is right in the middle of club season.

The biggest issue with Gregg is that there is no plan B, and we saw that manifest itself today. Japan did a really good job in attacking our weak points early on and disrupted what we were trying to do. Instead of making adjustments on the fly or at halftime in favor of something more direct... we just kept trying to do the same thing.

Surprisingly, it didn't work.

Agreed. Our top XI gives us a chance against anyone. But our 12-23 are a bunch of MLS/Eredivisie also-rans.

We were missing clear starting left back Antonee Robinson too.

Why did we waste like 3 free kicks on offensive half of field?
Instead of getting a ball up for Zimmerman or McKennie, we kept it and then as evidence by the 0 shots on goal, did nothing.

Gregg is getting roasted so bad on another forum I post on. Someone needs to step in and blow the ashes off of the table.

Missed the game. Trying to decide if I’d rather watch the replay or just stick my hand into a running garbage disposal.

It was terrible and frankly not worth watching unless you want to be frustrated and watch some Matt Turner highlights.

Even with the injuries and backups this was one of the most disappointing games in recent memory.

Our CB situation is a fricking disaster, we don’t have a forward worth a shite, we can’t progress the ball, and our coach keeps trying to fit the players to his system instead of the other way around. I’m legitimately concerned we are going to get blanked in Qatar.

I mean, I’m usually someone who pumps the brakes, but come on, that was an awful game. If we don’t get two healthy CBs we are fricked. And I don’t think any of them are fast enough and good enough at passing to make this high pressing system function. Losing Robsinson kind of fricked us.

If we can’t build out from our CBs then we need midfielders who can do this. Musah doesn’t pass and McKennie is poor at ball progression. Adams should always be in a double pivot with another midfielder. Put McKennie or Reyna as a more advanced CM depending on the opponent, with an Adams/Musah double pivot and see if we progress it better. And if we are going to try whipping in crosses from our outside backs then we better have a target man to put a head on it.

I don’t see Gregg fixing all of this before the WC. Some of it, sure. But we have very, very concerning issues.

So does every team in the group. England haven't scored from the run of play in its last 4 matches.

It was one (really) bad match. And there were definitely some issues. But I still know we will have the second most talented team in that group.

I don't think Aaron Long will play a second in Qatar. Richards, McKenzie, CCV are all better on the ball and have better athleticism than Long.

Musah can build out the back. We saw today Tyler playing as a lone 6 again, which only works when we are looking to hit teams on the counter. When we try to control possession like we did today, it doesn't work because his passing is way too simple. It's why in the second half of qualifying, we saw more of an inverted triangle in the midfield with Musah dropping deeper.

In the midfield and up top we have the talent to do it to a competitive level but not an elite level

In the back 4 and at GK no way

At CB and GK I don’t trust none of them with the ball at their feet playing it from the back under pressure

The one CB we all do trust isn’t going to get called up anymore……

I mean, we're not an elite team. Anyone expecting that this cycle was always going to be disappointed.

Just not there yet whether Gregg was or wasn't the coach.

Jedi, Dest and Richards/McKenzie/Ream/CCV can.

Brooks has played a grand total of two minutes for club in the last 6 months. That's not a USMNT problem, it's a Brooks problem.
