Just take a different route through a lower crime area? arse clowns.

I will admit that I'd think twice about stopping for a train at night now in BR though.

Can the police confirm that the killers will not move to alternate locations?

Just stay in your house, unless there is someone outside that wants something that is inside, then retreat abandoning what will now be their property.

Alternate route #1 - Get on I-10W and keep going until you hit Houston. Don’t come back.

They do have a point
What happened is very tragic but people do need to be aware of their surroundings especially at that time of the night when an incident like that is more likely to occur
She was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and the odds of a train that late at night is just unbelievably horrible luck
Very very sad all the way around! One turn off Govt could have saved her life.
What's worse is they may never find the killer.

You would still have to stop. Probably think about it for a second before deciding to turn around. All of which provides time for someone to kill you.

As Denis Leary put it “Red light means stop if you want to” around here.

After this clusterfrick, most people running a red at night should be able to point to a reasonable fear of safety as a legit excuse.

You can always just floor it at a red light if necessary.

There are MANY turns off Government that would've put her in worse areas than where she got shot too though.

And who's to say she wasn't aware of her surroundings? I'm not arguing either way, but "she shouldn't have been there" is ignoring the real problem.

I’d say this is amazing, but its really not. Just par for the course for this worthless police department.

Aren't Progressive leaders great?

Instead of "hey we will do what we can to make these areas safer", it is "just don't go there!"

Then, when people quit going there, guess what these Progressives will call you?

Keep voting Democrat!

This.

A lot of those areas are not great during the daylight and can be hard to navigate even then.

That is a reasonable solution...until you realize (1) even alternate routes will quickly bring you into a crime infested pocket elsewhere and (2) crime in the city is no longer limited to just the usual areas. A murder takes place at Benny's car wash on Perkins Rd. in the late afternoon. There is a mid-day shootout on Bluebonnet by the mall. There are people getting robbed on LSU's campus.

If you are a college kid like this poor girl where do you go? Tigerland is a literal slum. Everything just north of the LSU gates is a ghetto. Downtown has long become unappealing on the weekends. Walking back to your dorm at night is a risk. The venue near the murder site is a cool little place...until you have to leave at night.

True. My Mom fell at midnight on Memorial day weekend. My husband and I had to drive to BR general from 70817 at 2 am. I saw people fighting on the side of the road on old Jefferson, - they just left a car in the middle of the road with the door open, and I was approached by someone at a red light. Don't stop for shite.

Take an alternate route? I remember several years ago when two groups/gangs were having some tit-for-tat murders on the Westbank. One group was in Marrero I believe, and the other in Gretna. Gretna Police put together a task force and did saturation patrols of their neighborhood. Seriously, 15 patrol cars cruising one subdivision for a couple of weeks. Maybe BRPD could pay this area of Gov't St. and surrounding special attention. I wonder if they thought of that, or is it really drive somewhere else.

All they have to do is say "this has got to stop" and this should all go away
