I was going to say cathedrals “built today” don’t really count because they’re usually being improved incrementally continuously.

But sagrada familia basically wholesale stopped and then restarted so it’s substantial completion is yet to happen.

But it feels like a technicality that it’s a continuation of a 100 year old building.

I think it only stopped for war and covid.
But it's still being built off the original plans.
Minus some new tech interior.

Source: I took the full expensive tour last summer. It is friggin beautiful.

La Sagrada Familia.
A church in Spain.
But... in fairness... it's been being built for like 50 years and is scheduled to be done in 2026.

Dude, construction started in 1882. Agreed it'll be around a long time, but doesn't qualify.

Crazy that the Empire State Building was built in 13 months.

I'd be surprised if this makes it 40 more years before the libs insist it's destroyed.

I can’t believe how little attention Stone Mountain has gotten the last couple of years. I used to constantly hear people talking about destroying it

The things built years ago that stand today weren’t built with the most expensive materials. Were Wrigley Field, the Empire State Building, or going waaaay back to the Pyramids built with some premium brick? I honestly don’t know, but I assume that in today’s economy, you can build to last if you want to. This problem seems to be modified in the US. I think Europe and Asia appreciate the older “things”.

Craziest thing is the most expensive structures built (Professional stadiums), although costing billions to build, probably won't make it thru 2050 without being torn down and replaced

This is going to be interesting to see. After Jerry Jones built the Cowboys stadium other stadiums started to be built. They all want to be the latest and greatest. They are all venues that are more than a place to hold a football game. Dallas has a museum in it, etc.

The Raiders new stadium is pretty bad arse.

But I wouldn't be surprised if there is a stadium built that is also a hotel or a casino (or both) then there will be others that follow. Because they all want a stadium that an generate revenue 24/7 365.

I would think the 9/11 memorial will be there a long while. It just came and went yesterday so that was an early thought by me

3 pages and not a single mention of the billion dollar clock Bezos built inside of that mountain?

quote:

The giant clock is set to house five ‘room-sized anniversary chambers’ for the 1 year, 10 year, 100 year, 1,000 year, and 10,000 year anniversaries of the clock’s completion. The one-year anniversary chamber will hold a mock-up of the planets and the Earth's moon while the rest of the anniversary chambers will be left for future generations to create.

I've got a special spot in my will for my Fleshlight. It's gonna make it. Made of only the highest quality materials, and the grandkids should absolutely know exactly what an early 21st century adult preformer felt like. it's only right.

Also the Pyramid in Memphis. That place is a redneck mecca and I say that embracing the redneck. That place is well fortified with live fish. Right on the Mississippi river. Boats. Guns and shitkoads of ammo. Sleeping quarters. A balcony aka a snipers perch. Dehydrators and other stuff to preserve meat long term. shite hits the fan... With proper leadership the 901 area code could unite, pivot and become a key strategic point/location. It has everything going for it. Incredible hospitals, logistics capital, auto parts capital, refinery, rail, and agriculture. Will just take some of the county folk to integrate and some of the inner city folks... gang folk and meth heads outer folk to be shipped off. Liberal whiny folks will be forced into hard work or arts like plays (think medieval jesters).

Almost nothing physical will make it, but a good chunk of everything digital, both trash and treasure, will survive for a long long time (likely until all life is wiped out in the Universe from the Big Freeze).
