Suspended LSU fraternity ignoring ban, secures off-campus manor despite threats from university

A fraternity that is temporarily banned from operating on LSU's campus over hazing allegations is planning to move into a spacious home located just minutes from the university, flagrantly disregarding warnings from the school.
LSU suspended Phi Kappa Psi in 2020 after the school investigated multiple reported instances of hazing at the fraternity. Some of the allegations involved a student who was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning and a reported suicide that happened in the days after that incident.
Despite Phi Kappa Psi's suspension staying in effect through at least May 2025, the fraternity is now reportedly renting the property near the corner of Highland Road and Lee Drive, with the intent of housing its members there.
Neighbors around the area are concerned with how this will impact small businesses in the area, even though they understand that the property owner needs to make money.

Who would rent a house to a fraternity? How do you possibly insure something like that?

Will probably increase. Why is residential worried about commercial?

Good for them. I have zero skin in the game for Greek life and the way LSU has treated fraternities in the last few years is a joke.

Wouldnt a bunch of rich frat baws be good for business?
Better than section 8 trash moving in and stealing your merchandise

What used to be in this property (Highland at Lee)? I found a video. The interior is bizarre but interesting.

Good for them. They are doing everything legally. Neighbors are worried about small businesses??? How about you let them move in and actually wait and see how they are before you judge them? If they break laws/ordinances, then enforce them. Until then, they aren't doing anything wrong.

It’s Phi Psi, who cares?

I’m worried about increased drunk driving on my street. People already fly down Burgin.

I graduated in the early 90s. Since that time is Greek life on the rise, decline or about the same? At my university it seems to be about the same level of kids involved.

Smart move by fraternity to go where LSU can’t control them.

Good for them. Remember the Free Masons and American Legion’s are registered as fraternities and fraternities are permitted to operate in East Baton Rouge Parish, so they can gripe all they want, they are permitted to practice. It’s like complaining when a sex shop opens, they are in their legal right to conduct their business. It’s a brilliant move, as their building is zoned as commercial, so they have a higher permitted operating decibel and can have 3rd party venues serve events, host any events, and safely perimeter the available parking.

not getting any privacy in that location, I'd be afraid of some trash wandering in

Worried about small businesses? Every food/booze joint in that immediate area will benefit from a house full of guys who can’t cook, love to drink and likely have disposable cash.

Haha I looked at that building a few years ago in a desperate search for a 1031 exchange

Good. Fraternities and sororities need to get from under the foot of woke school administrators.
