Why is no one talking about Dellinger’s inability to snap the ball?

Cost us 4 points on the opening drive. And, happened more than once.
Just hope doesn’t come back to bite us again down the road.

It was disappointing, especially because it was something that was supposedly fixed during camp (i.e., it’s a recurring problem).

Because the options on the Oline are limited. It's a known issue that's been talked about before.
The only real option is for him to get better.

It looked like the slow snap was throwing off timing too.

Because we already knew it was an issue. We lack a true OC and Dellinger is taking the job since we don't have a capable alternative.

brad davis has been fricking terrible his whole time here

Because he’s never played center and we don’t have another option.

You mean inability to snap the ball 100% of the time right? Because 99% of the time I saw him snap the ball just fine.

Wouldn't have been an issue if Boutte catches that pass a few plays before.

Playing center is tough. Doing it in a game and practice is different. He'll get better, just will take time.

Fitz West could be a good center and he’s the first decent option we’ve recruited to play the position in a while, but he’s going to need at least a year to be ready.

I don’t think you understand what a good snap is… just because he gets it there doesn’t mean it’s a good snap. Half the time he lollipopped it there and Jaden is still standing there waiting for it and the ends are two yards down field. Bro snapping a ball is so incredibly simple. It’s mind boggling to me that anyone couldn’t do it perfectly without second thought

This. I haven't gone back to rewatch and probably won't but I thought the interior of the line played well enough overall. The tackles are a bigger concern for me going forward

It was a big mistake and it cost us a lot of early momentum, but he really only had one other bad snap the rest of the night, and Daniels snagged it. It wasn’t like he was all over the place all night. Of all the problems on the OL, his at least seems very fixable.

Well, we don’t have any better options. Ed didn’t leave any Centers and we knew from preseason getting clean snaps was a problem and would likely be a factor.

This may be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever read on tRant. The Center has to adjust the protections, snap the ball and then be up in a split second to block a guy bearing down on him. You sound like an Internet badass who’s never played a down before.
Delly doesn’t deserve a free pass, but it’s not like he’s played Center for years.

quote:It wasn't 99% of the time, but no where as bad as some are relaying here. They'll chart them on crispness and placement. I'm willing to be 70 - 80% will be acceptable on both. Granted, his worst one over JD's head was at the worst possible time!
You mean inability to snap the ball 100% of the time right? Because 99% of the time I saw him snap the ball just fine.
I'm also betting they find the slow ones are also high.
You shouldn't release the ball above the knees. It results in a high snap. It will usually be high because it arcs, and because it arcs it will also be slow.
If that isn't the case it might be in his grip (I doubt this). Or in his wrist where it is breaking over.
So I'd qualify his snaps as "very inconsistent" vs. "regularly bad" and it is likely his release point in his mechanics, or stance, or both.
It is worth noting that the placement being off (as opposed to sailing them) was frequent enough to affect JD, especially in an RPO offense. For non-RPOs it would have hurt less, but still some.
To me it appeared that Daniels was instructed to pull the ball and run if he got an off target snap that threw the timing off on an RPO. I'm basing this off of several snaps were noticeably high and wide leaving Dellinger and invariably he just tucked it an ran. So that was the coaching adjustment to Dellinger still having some snap problems.
But it pays to remember that the crispness and placement are going hand in hand (not always the case). So if they correct the placement by fixing his mechanics, his snaps will be fine since the speed/crispness is dependent on the same.
