No, everyone was complaining about this casting. I was skeptical too, but I think she's great. It can be done, but you just gotta have the right people.
It was more about Amazon marketing the way they were casting because they were making a political statement. Like with their fake super fan panel and other interviews. A good actor is just that and has nothing to with their demographic.
So far their casting has not been bad and have enjoyed the episodes. Not a lot depth for a Tolkien story but maybe will get better.

I’m a huge dork reader and watcher of the LOTR.
I was not impressed with the first episode. I’m holding off watching the second.

The ending was the telling part. It’s obvious Sauron, portrayed to look like Jesus even falling from the heavens, will be followed by the southerners who will both be the epitome of evil. The messaging is as clear as day and this is not in anyway related to Tolkien.

That’s a bit of a stretch
Also when did Jesus fall from the heavens?

Portrayal/symbolism = literal? Don’t put words in my mouth.

Page 17 of a thread on a show you aren’t watching doesn’t “come across” your path. You seek it out. Move on, dude. You’re just making yourself miserable, and to what end? Nothing you do/say will have any impact on the success or failure of this show.

quote:Per the contract agreement Amazon has with the Estate, they very explicitly CAN'T do that (break the lore of the later tales), so I think it's safe to say it's not Gandalf or Sauron.
So I'm hoping he's a blue wizards, because him being either Gandalf or Souron completely breaks later lore.
quote:And that would be okay with the agreement.
Also they could have interesting stories in yet unseen parts of middle earth.
As I read it, they're limited in what written stuff they can use, and they're free to extrapolate from those sources... but can't do things that would change the story as perceived by the events of LOTR and The Hobbit. So, no killing Smaug, Celeborn, etc. They're free to use characters present, as long as they don't contradict what is written about them, so Galadriel can have various adventures (nothing written one way of the other), but she needs to end up with one of the Three Rings, married to Celeborn, and at some point move to Lothlorien.

Who changed the races of characters in Tolkiens world, and why. Let's start there.
"It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men who above all else desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed, and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all."

‘LOTR: The Rings Of Power’ Forges Biggest Premiere Viewership Ever For Amazon Prime Video
quote:
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is the biggest thing Amazon Prime Video has ever done, and it looks like the TV series based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing has delivered big time.
Launching with two episodes in 240 counties and territories across the globe on September 1, the J.D. Payne & Patrick McKay co-created Rings of Power snared more 25 million viewers in its first day, according to the Jeff Bezos founded streamer.
With some very big bucks behind Rings of Power, that global audience of over 25 million is the best and biggest premiere that Amazon Prime Video has had in its 15-year history

That just shows you the writers have no idea what they're talking about. Jesus didn't fall from Heaven, the Devil did. As St. Luke wrote: "For I beheld Satan and he fell from Heaven, like lightning."

We had to watch it to know if it sucks. They had a built in audience of millions. The trick will be keeping them.

I was going to ask but didn't want it to be a stupid question if that guy is a wizard. I thought there was Sauromon, Gandalf, radagast, 2 blues but I thought that they didn't come to ME until 3rd age?
You are indeed correct.
quote:
quote:
We're there more wizards in the first and second age?
No
Wrong. About the Blues:
quote:
Their task was to circumvent Sauron: to bring help to the few tribes of Men that had rebelled from Melkor-worship, to stir up rebellion ... and after his first fall to search out his hiding (in which they failed) and to cause dissension and disarray among the dark East ... They must have had very great influence on the history of the Second Age and Third Age in weakening and disarraying the forces of East ... who would both in the Second Age and Third Age otherwise have ... outnumbered the West. —"Last Writings", The Peoples of Middle-earth

Well you did say “even falling from the heavens“ so I am Not putting words in your mouth.
Otherwise, What’s the symbolism?
In what way is he portrayed as Christ like?

Since we don’t know who this is yet, I’m not sure how you can make that statement. Plus just bc some random poster thinks something on TD, does not mean that’s what the writers intended.

OK huge JRR geek, I broke down and watched this morning. It would be fine as a generic fantasy, not great but not horrible. It is though an abomination as a Tolkien work. Race is far from the biggest issue. The wife of Durin and Durin himself are so over the top, sitcom like characters. Elrond and breaking rocks, dumb as shite. Add in the elf buzzcuts and the Lady Galadriel as “Leader of the Northern Army” and the feel is all off. The proto hobbits are abysmal. Hell the black elf guy was the best elf portrayed.
