Looks like Damian Ramos is going to be our kicker. Here’s his scouting report

He’s a stud.

Next great Tiger kicker.

I've been wondering whats going to happen here because Dibert didnt really seem to be the pick from the start of camp.

We've been spoiled in special teams for a very long time now. Hopefully Ramos continues that.

Kicking is a lot different when you are in practice than when the bright lights are on in Tiger stadium. Hopefully the kid is a good one but nobody will really know until he’s in a game situation. If you would have asked any fan before camp started I think most would have said the kicker would be either Dibert or Mata.

Very true.

That’s why we all know Cade York is about to be elite in the pros. Big ole nuts.

We are going to be in a bunch of close games this year, hope this guy is money.

Special teams won ND 2 games last and Polian is the ST coach.

Finally, a mention of the position that is typically LSU’s leading scorer…

A fan base that omits the kicker from talk of the upcoming football season is a spoiled fan base.

Don’t ever take the kicker position for granted.

I trust any kicker with the last name of Ramos.

I remember giving up huge field position because we didn’t have a guy that could kick it deep. 2015?16? Or most of the les miles years

The most obvious sign of an LSU fan - Going out of your way to make sure we aren’t optimistic about anything.

Was this kid on the team last year or did the new staff grab him?

It wasn't that we couldn't kick deep, Cameron Gamble could boot the shite out of the ball. Miles kept asking him to kick to the corner so we could try to pin them deep. The issue is that our guy (or any kicker ever lol) wasn't good enough to put it in the corner without kicking it out of bounds.

Are all of these kickers on scholarship, or only Dibert?

Yep.

We generally think of kickers at the "weaklings" on a football team, but there may not be a position that requires more mental toughness. With no other position are the individual expectations levels of success higher. No one expects a QB to complete 90% of his passes. No one expects a RB to to gain 6-7 yards every time he touches the ball. No one expects defensive players to make every tackle to defend every pass. Yet, absent an extremely long FG attempt, everyone expects the kicker to convert almost every time he steps on the field...which may only be 2-3 times a game. And when he does step on to the field he knows that every single eye of the 80k, 90k, 100k people in the stadium are on him...as well as potentially millions watching on TV.

York was unfazed by the pressure from day 1. First big game on the road at Texas? He went 3/3. Huge game at Alabama? No problem. He calmly went 2/2 with both over 40 yards. Unfortunately it will probably get lost to history because of the way the season went, but his kick to beat Florida may have been the greatest kick in LSU history given the scenario. 57 yards off a somewhat slick field in dense fog...and it was never in doubt.

I'm sure Ramos has the physical tools to be a good kicker. But a lot of guys do. The great ones are the ones who can deliver when seemingly 3 hours of football comes down to one kick.
