A monument to black Union soldiers goes up while white confederates goes down. Hmmm

I listened to Al Sharpton’s radio show several months ago.

He spoke as if half the Union soldiers were black and the Union would have lost badly if not for the black soldiers.

I laughed in my car. Which is why I was listening on the first place.

However as silly as it is this is what the next generation will be taught.

You can highlight parts of history without changing history or tearing down others to showcase a lesser known story. But it’s all about tearing down others to change the history books.

Someone needs to do a monument to Black Confederate soldiers.

They actually existed.

Racism but its ok for the Blacks to be racist and do violent things to Asians and whites.

This kind of BS needs to stop and only Trump can do it

Black Americans have distinguished themselves fighting under our flag. I have no issue honoring their service and their sacrifices.
Maybe if more people knew about these veterans they wouldn’t disrespect the flag these men and women fought under.

They ought to erect a monument to the hundreds of black women that were raped by Yankees in the Bayou Teche campaign. All done while their commanders stood by and allowed it to happen.

Without knowing anything about the specifics of the monument (hoping I don’t insert my foot into my mouth here if the monument is woke in nature) and considering the specific times in which they fought I don’t have an issue with it. It makes sense to me and is a part of our military history that should be acknowledged.

I’m not okay with that.

History needs to be acknowledged and taught but viewing everything through a modern woke lens has had devastating effects on race relations. Not every Confederate soldier was a slave owner or approved of the practice and they shouldn’t be treated as such. Not every Union solider was fighting for reunification or the abolition of slavery. War and the reasons individuals fight is far too complicated to paint with a broad brush.

While there were many black soldiers fighting for the Union cause, to think that the number is significant is just wrong!

Those free blacks would have been living in the north and I that population was not overwhelming. Before the war there were only about 225,000 freed blacks living in the north.
There were about 250,000 free blacks living in the South at the same time, it is very doubtful that they would fight for the Union given what type black lash they might receive. Blacks that joined from the South were freed when the Union army raided homes of whites. Again, that didn't happen until the war was in all but over.
