Man's home surveillance system at center of criminal case: Held on $1M bond for video voyeurism
Update:

LIVINGSTON – Sheriff’s deputies are in the middle of a sweeping case involving hidden cameras installed in a man's home.
Christopher Johnson, 38, of Satsuma, was booked into the Livingston Parish jail on 40 counts of video voyeurism. His bond was set at $1,000,000 Monday.
The sheriff’s office said the initial case surrounds a camera found in Johnson’s home and video recorded from the camera. The camera may have been hidden, sources told the WBRZ Investigative Unit.
“Evidence dates back to 2019 and 2020. As you can imagine, this is a sensitive case,” Sheriff Jason Ard said in a statement to WBRZ.
Detectives were still reviewing the videos recorded by the camera and more charges are possible, the sheriff said.
A source told WBRZ the camera was set up to record people living in or visiting Johnson’s house in private settings.

A social media account for Johnson listed him as being a sales executive at a voice and data business communications company in Livingston Parish. Among other things, the business sold security cameras.

DENHAM SPRINGS - Security cameras are visible from the outside of the home where a woman says 38-year-old Christopher Johnson installed a secret camera that looks like a cell phone charger in the bathroom they used to share.
The woman tells WBRZ she lived in the home with Johnson until he moved out in July of 2021.
She says a couple months after he moved out, he gave her an SD card he thought contained pictures of a deceased family member.
Instead, she says she found hundreds of videos of her, her mother, their children and other guests using the bathroom. Johnson is facing 40 counts of video voyeurism stemming from the hidden camera.
"Video Voyeurism is a crime in Louisiana. It prohibits the video taping of folks when they don't know it," attorney Chase Tettleton with Babcock Injury Lawyers said.
Tettleton explained the law backing the charges. He explained even with Johnson owning the house, laws don't allow someone, like a guest, to be secretly recorded in a bathroom.

The way it’s worded is kind of confusing.
Is it illegal to have cameras hidden in your house? Do cameras have to be labeled? I mean they sell those nanny cam things.
If the nanny is naughty in front of the camera, doesn’t it kind of defeat the point If you let her know?
Obviously frick this POS but seems like some murky law

Where does it say he was snooping on or diddling kids?

The irony of 3 out of the 6 links under that story on WBRZ being ads for cameras you literally just screw into a socket:

From the mugshot it doesn't look like he is used to being on that side of the camera.
How is this still a thing ? Did no one tell him about reddit ?
Why put yourself at risk when its all out there on the web already?

He should be thrown off a bridge butttt
is ridiculous. Murderers have 50-100k bonds sometimes.

This seems like a terribly written law. It has to depend on context, right? Otherwise you’d have to notify thieves they were being filmed or they’d have a case against you

her? You coulda just snapped a few pics.
her mom? yuck, lock him up.
their children? Wow, once you check your little cam and see this as an unintended consequence you gotta clean up your perverted act. And if you dont, you should probably be shot.

Or how about another angle?! She knew it was there and as a scorned ex wife decided to do this. And she knew about it for years. She's had this information and so has her mother.

Also, if she didn't know it was there and only found it on a drive....then how does she know what the charger looked like?!?!
