I think it's gone well beyond an athlete simply having a different opinion on public policy issues. However, when the opinion becomes I'm right and you're a racist, bigot, etc. for not thinking the same way as me, it becomes a lot more personal.
As for me, I wouldn't say that I actively boycott anything. However, I am much more apathetic about all sports in general. I used to plan my Saturdays around college football and Sundays around the NFL. Now it's more that if I'm home, I'll probably have a game on, but I'm not going out of my way to watch anything. I never go to ESPN's site to read anything. I've stopped listening to all sports talk radio. In short, I just have lost interest.
My mindset might actually be worse than an actual boycott. If it was a boycott, then them changing their behavior might bring me back. As of now, I've realized that it just isn't as important as other things in my life, so I probably won't ever be fully back regardless.

This places the blame for the way things are on fans/viewers rather than on creators of entertainment. It's basically victim blaming.
I did not bring my politics to these things...they did. I was willing to ignore the one or to idiots in sports or entertainment that felt the need to bring their politics out constantly because I wanted to enjoy their work. Now it's most of them, in addition to every league and team doing the same thing. Same goes for actors and the various studios which create content.
Again...I'm NOT the problem, unless you feel I'm obligated to pay people for these services? They had a choice to continue to provide politics free entertainment or to use their various platforms to push their personal political beliefs. They chose the latter. Like them, I too have a choice. I can cravenly continue to pay them to entertain me despite the fact most of them are open with how much they despise people that hold my beliefs, or I can act in kind and walk away from the entertainment they provide.
I'm not deprived of anything. I have more free time, I spend less money, and I have no concern that I'm funding people that hate me. If you agree with their actions then it makes all the sense in the world for you to continue to fund them. If you don't and you still do, you're a fricking idiot or too weak to act on your own convictions.

Correct. A boycott implies that you hope that you can change their behavior by your actions. I have no illusions that would happen. I just walked away. I decided I would no longer allow this to be a one sided conversation where they were allowed to bring their politics into a place where they did not belong but I was not able to. My only retort was to walk away.
This was after a lifetime of being an athlete and fan. Covid made it possible though. When things went sideways in the Spring of 2020 and sports shut down, we all went cold turkey. When things went nuts that summer and I decided I'd had enough, I was primed to be without sports. I haven't watched a second of college football since LSU's last play in the 2019 NC game. I did watch some highlights of Tampa games and Cincy games last year on YouTube. I realized this summer though that for the first time in probably 35+ years I had no pull towards football season. I'd normally have been invested in new players/coaches/schemes, looking ahead at the schedule for home games and making plans, etc. Having been away now for two full years I have no attachment any longer and it's great. It can easily be done.

LA state employees get the whole day off on an Election Day if it is within the parish they work in or two days if they have to vote in a different parish from their job.

Oh I agree. Leftists have long been the instigators. I just refuse to allow their antics to affect my personal enjoyment of any form of entertainment. I love hoops. Playing and watching. Gregg Popovich's codger arse ain't gonna ruin my enjoyment of my Spurs. Been a fan of my team longer than he's been here, anyways
