OTB just jinxed us.

Five minutes about how Johnson didn't get picked.

I was yelling at my radio the whole time.

None of that really matters. The third round is where teams are able to re-group, figure out their money, and figure out how much they can go over.

And also learn how much some guys numbers have come down because they're nervous.

The odds on Johnson making it to campus haven't changed yet.

100% this is the worst part. Both sides got to figure out where they actually want to be with money. We’ll see if Johnson lowered that number pretty quickly…

At this point it is all about his number and if he sticks to it. We were talking similarly last year after day 1 about Michael Kennedy and the Pirates took him in the 4th round and paid him $1M. The pick right before him in the 4th round got $3.7M. A pitcher in the 7th got $1.2M and another in the 10th got the same. Each round that passes the chances increase but it only takes 1 team that has the extra money to throw at him.

T Bob and Hester being NFL guys probably don't fully understand how the MLB draft works if they spent that much time talking about it.

Just looking at draft reaches (player ranking vs pick, signifying the possibility of signing underslot), the Brewers and the Mariners look pretty dangerous.

The Pirates are still dangerous from the sheer amount of pool money they have and the rumored deal for Skenes is about $500k below slot.

ETA: Baltimore also looks dangerous. They have seemingly saved pool money. Johnson is also from there. We saw how that played into a couple guys with the Royals before.

Project - I’m sure it has been said, but thank you for all the work and research you do for this forum. It helps me with the boredom of work. ??

You're welcome, and I enjoy it, but I'm far from the only one contributing here.

Applebey had a promising outing last night in summer ball.

Moffett extended a little bit and faced 7 batters last night. He's walked 2 in 2 appearances over 2.2 innings. Overall he seems to be around the zone more. I think I'm going to go back and watch his outing again.

Pearson is crushing the baseball in the cape. Hopefully that continues into next year. He will need to be a big part of next years team to have success.

Few other updates when looking at summer stats this morning:

Ethan Frey is doing well to start with 4-10 with 6BB and only 3K.

Jared Jones struggles continues unfortunately. He is 0-8 to start with 7K/1BB.

Brady Neal is 3-10 to start with 2HR. He has 5K/3BB.

Kling made it out to the cape and played his 1st game yesterday.

Ruddell has 2HR and 12SB. He has 25K/13BB. He really needs to work on cutting down on the swing and miss.

Grant Taylor’s number was never at 4 million it’s why I question everything Mascona says

He never explicitly stated Taylor was asking $4M, he said with where Taylor was projected pre-injury the slot value was around $4M. He was questioning whether Taylor would hold out for that number, or sign for less.

I.e. I read the Rant today, saw someone say $4 million about someone, and made the jump.

Clown show.

He always makes himself sound ridiculous with his "scout" information.

It is not a stretch to say that his people were telling scouts that at the beginning of the draft to try and get the negotiating closer to his real number. He was probably going to sign for anything 1.5 and above. No point of taking the risk of coming back next season if you are offered that. His real number may have been just anything over 1 mil.

That is really promising. If he can gain some command he is an elite arm out of the bullpen next year.

Just went back and watched. They didn't have a gun on him but the fast ball looked very good and had a ton of life. He even flashed a nice slurve that absolutely buckled guys.

His first inning (the 8th) he mowed down the 3 guys he faced. 2 strike ground out and 2 K's.

His second inning he got a 4 pitch strikeout (his second of the night on the breaking ball), a ground out, then a 4 pitch walk that I think a good catcher gets at least 1 if not 2 of those pitches in as strikes. Next batter had a very Milazzo like base hit (stepping out, first pitch hunting and hit one the other way. Looked very lucky). Then he spiked an 0-1 fastball that got away from the catcher and allowed the (Walk off) run to come in from 3rd.

Overall he looked very good. His fastball runs in on righties and the breaking ball sweeps across the plate and really confused the batters. None of them recognized, much less offered, at the breaking ball. You can see the potential there and why he was ranked so highly.

Thank you for the recap. That's very encouraging. I think in his first outing he only threw one non-fastball.

Exciting to see him work secondary stuff in more. Exciting to see him go more than an inning.

is his leg kick still sky high?

I know it’s hard to cha ge stuff like that, but it seems like a lot of moving pieces for a guy with control issues.

also, Grant Taylor going second should be held up to every on the fence pitcher as an example: look this guy came in? had an good not great freshmen year, lit up summerball, tore his UCl and then went jn the second round.

don’t worry about injuries, the MLb doesn’t care about Tommy John anymore.
