Is there a brand of subsonic ammo that will consistently cycle in a Ruger 10/22 semi-auto, without first having to purchase and install a 10% lighter recoil spring?

Update: ordering Eley Subsonic 38grain. Has great reviews and are coated with paraffin wax for semi-auto use.

Probably not reliably. Hell, there is some standard ammo that won't cycle a 10/22 reliably and the 10/22 is one of the most reliable semi auto 22's ever designed.

What is your goal? Are you shooting suppressed?

Do you clean it too much, maybe?

CCIs are the only ones I've had decent luck with in general, but haven't tried them in a 10-22.

Sadly, buy a henry lever. Shorts, cb caps, subs, LR - all can be had.

I went down that rabbit hole a number of years ago before getting a custom barrel w/ a threaded muzzle. A couple of observations:
1. In my standard 10/22 mags, anything other than 22 LR would not feed from the magazine. Specifically, the tip of the bullet of 22 shorts, 22 longs, etc would nosedive into the mag.
2. Ammo that was barely subsonic, e.g. CCI Standard Velocity (muzzle velocity 1070 fps), would reliably cycle my action. OTOH, ammo at the other end of the subsonic spectrum, e.g CCI 22 Quiet (mv 710 fps) wouldn't reliably cycle the action. There's a lot of other options in between those two. I'd first start w/ CCI Standard Velocity. As far as HP's, I'd try CCI Subsonic 40 gr HP and Aguila Subsonic 38 gr HP (both w/ mv of 810 fps) . CCI Standard Velocity ammo is the most accurate ammo in all my 22's. Plus it's usually more available than most of 22 LR ammo.
3. I've never changed out the recoil spring in my 10/22's.
4. Keep your action clean. Look up on the internet how to polish the 10/22 bolt. Here's one example.

Good luck. Keep us updated.

Buy a Savage MARK II FV-SR and thank me later. I run a can on mine but you should still be fine with just subs and no can

If you can swing it, get a bolt action.

I have a Ruger Precision. With subs and a silencer it’s quieter than a pellet gun.

If you just want to shoot the 10/22, just shoot it as a single shot.

CCI and Remington Subs are what I use on my 10/22 and they work fine. I am running a Rumble Wepnz suppressed barrel not a suppressor.

Another vote for CCI Standard Velocity. I use the bolt action Savage with a can...extremely accurate and quiet. Every now and then (maybe 1 out of 100-200) I'll get a round that will break the sound barrier, not very often though.

I have a suppressed ruger charger (pistol version of 10/22). It cycles both the cci "suppressor" rounds and cci "subsonic" rounds just fine. I have heard that the cci "quiet" ammo that's listed at 770 fps will not cycle but have never tried it.

I have a can on my 15/22. I’ve not yet found a subsonic round that won’t cycle flawlessly

gemtech
CCI standard and sub

Have you tried these?

I haven't. I just manually cycle the 710 fps CCIs through my Marlin M60. Mini Mags seem to be the most accurate in that rifle.
