John Leguizamo took to Instagram to speak out against the recent casting of James Franco as Cuban revolutionary Fidel Castro in the upcoming independent film, “Alina of Cuba.” Variety confirmed Franco’s casting on Aug. 4. “Alina of Cuba” is directed by Miguel Bardem, based on a script written by Jose Rivera and Nilo Cruz.
“How is this still going on?” Leguizamo asked his Instagram followers about Franco being cast as the Cuban historical figure. “How is Hollywood excluding us but stealing our narratives as well? No more appropriation Hollywood and streamers! Boycott! This F’d up! Plus seriously difficult story to tell without aggrandizement, which would be wrong! I don’t got a [problem] with Franco but he ain’t Latino!”

This coming from the same Latino actor who has played Italian, French & drag queen characters despite being none of those in real life

Is Franco half-Portuguese? Doesn’t that count for something?

If hobbits can be black then Castro can be Portuguese-Jewish.

Leguizamo claimed Puerto Rican ancestry for years when he's not Puerto Rican at all.

The bigger story is that they’ll probably paint Fidel as some hero when in fact, he was a murderer who destroyed the future of his own people.

The lack of self awareness these retards have really is incredible.

What’s hilarious about this is that Castro isn’t “Cuban/Latino” either. His dad moved to Cuba from Iberia, which encompasses Spain and Portugal.
And does anybody want to know where Franco’s grandparents moved from? Yup, that’s right, Iberia.

Sarah Silverman has criticised the “long tradition” in Hollywood of Jewish characters being played by actors who aren’t Jewish.
The actor and comedian cited Kathryn Hahn’s casting as the late Joan Rivers in the forthcoming series The Comeback Girl, and Felicity Jones’s portrayal of Ruth Bader Ginsberg in On the Basis of Sex, as two prominent examples

Speaking on The Sarah Silverman Podcast last week, Silverman said: “There’s this long tradition of non-Jews playing Jews, and not just playing people who happen to be Jewish but people whose Jewishness is their whole being.
“One could argue, for instance, that a Gentile playing Joan Rivers correctly would be doing what is actually called ‘Jewface.’”
Silverman defined the term as being “when a non-Jew portrays a Jew with the Jewishness front and centre”, often with the use of makeup or “changing of features”, as well as a “New York-y or Yiddish-y” vocal inflection.
quote:"Name one person funnier than Sarah Silverman. Besides men." - Norm Macdonald
“In a time when the importance of representation is seen as so essential and so front and centre, why does ours constantly get breached even today in the thick of it?” she continued.
The Marvellous Mrs Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan and Shiva Baby star Rachel Sennott are also among the non-Jewish actors to have recently played Jewish roles.
In the podcast, the comedian also talks about wider antisemitism in media, criticising how prevalent antisemitic tropes render people “very righteously unsympathetic toward Jews”.

Well, there you have it.
Edit: Castro’s dad was from Galicia. That gray area to the south of Galicia? Portugal. Might not be the same country or the same language, but probably a better case can be made for Franco to play Castro than for Leguizamo to play Luigi.
