I watched about 6 hours of the old "Married With Children" episodes a few nights ago when I couldn't sleep and it covered some of the first 2 seasons.
The acting was really pretty bad in those early episodes and doesn't hold up too well.

Al wanted a wife who was June Cleaver at home in addition to looks. Instead, “Agent Red” was a lazy shopaholic who couldn’t boil water.
Being stuck with someone who totally disgusted him by her actions is why sex was such a chore for him.
Didn’t help that her getting pregnant with Kelly, resulting in the Wanker family forcing a shotgun wedding, closed off a lot of options for him.
Al wasn’t gay for Pete but heavily appreciated what Pete did for Andy, as that was exactly what he wanted in a wife outside the bedroom.
