I lived in Chattanooga most of my life and was pretty happy there. Four of the other cities on your list are within a two hour drive or so of Chattanooga, for easy weekend trips or whatever.

But I guess it really depends on what you're looking for in a city.

Just a heads up that the cost of real estate has basically doubled here over the past two years alone.

Raleigh used to be relatively inexpensive, especially when we moved here back in 2010, but housing costs have exploded. Everything else is on par with other places. All that said, it’s a great place to live and has a pretty diverse economy, especially compared to Charlotte.

Athens GA, particularly the neighboring community of Watkinsville. Commutable to ATL, but has plenty of its own local economy.

Also, some of the nicer areas on the coastal outskirts of Savannah such as Wilmington Island.

Really depends on what yall have to do for money. Are you nurses and doctors, are you welders or lawyers or PM's that work from home, etc.

If you want the convenience of living close to LA, but want to avoid all of the crime, government grifters, taxes, fees, paying to fix shite that never gets fixed, high insurance costs, etc., go to Pearlington, MS. The problem is that people like it there so much, that houses don't come up for sale.

I really enjoy North Atlanta suburbs. Fantastic schools, nice lakes and rivers, and mountains within an hour. And with ATL airport, you can fly direct anywhere. frick Atlanta though.

I'll go with my old stomping grounds, Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill.
