In Nashville? I moved from TN to Central Oregon and still don't think that Winters are all that long/bad. The worst thing that I can remember about Winters in TN is that there was a lot of gray, rainy days and not a lot of leaves on the trees.

Ive seen more snow and freezing cold days in my 5 yrs here than id seen in my prior 35 yrs of life…. Granted, the natives tell me that the last few winters have been colder and snowier than they usually are, but all i have to go by is my own experience, and Nashville to me seems very un-Southern in regards to weather .

Same here. If I had to live in a New England state, it'd definitely be Maine or Vermont.

If I can’t afford to live in Mt Pleasant, then I wouldn’t move to Charleston

I lived there in the early 2000's and it was very close to paradise. And we continue to visit annually. Mount Pleasant isn't what it used to be. If I moved back, I'd go further out up toward McLellanville. Not that it's any cheaper, but has more of the feel of what Mount Pleasant used to be. Ultimately, in a lottery scenario, I would be on the backside of Sullivan's Island with a dock on the ICW with a bay boat and a jonboat, a friend at Toler's with an offshore boat, and a golf cart to get to the beach.

I left the state around the same time that you entered it, so maybe it's been worse than normal. In Chattanooga, it wasn't unusual at all to go several years without seeing any real snow.

January was about the only month that you could count on most likely seeing some really cold days/nights.

Raleigh/Durham is the tech hub of the east and is situated nicely between the coast and the Appalachians.

Raleigh is on/near the top of every "best places to live in" list I've seen. I've gone twice in the last 4 months, and I can't wrap my head around it. I was there for weekdays and weekends. I never saw what made it so great. Sure, the proximity to the coast and the mountains is great, but if I'm packing up to move somewhere, I want to love the place, not the ease of getting out. It felt like a city that was growing too quickly and no longer had a real identity.

If anyone can correct me on this, please do. I'd love to be wrong about it, as job opportunities are great there. I just need a better reason than a job.

Boone? frick that. Coldest place in North Carolina.

A better mountain town is Brevard. Much better. You’re only 30 minutes from Asheville, 2 hours from Charlotte.

I feel the same way about RDU. I don’t really ‘get it’.

I grew up in Mt. Pleasant but live dt Charleston now. I don't think I could ever live in Mt. P again with how much it has changed.

The irony isn't lost with me in that statement with how much Charleston has changed

Such a harsh and sad reality. Getting out of Louisiana and staying out is one of the best things one can do with their life.

Do you have the money to afford Mountain Brook, Homewood, or Vestavia?

If so, then I vote BHam.

Raleigh is cool. If we wouldn’t have bought our house right before covid we wouldn’t be here anymore though. Real estate prices have gone crazy and they wont get better

Lafayette and Mandeville/Covington are the best LA has to offer, but I would choose Chattanooga or Huntsville out of the places I’ve been.

I’ve never visited Nashville, Jacksonville, Tampa, or the Carolina’s (Charleston, Columbia, Raleigh, Asheville, Charlotte)

Chattanooga seems cool, but it’s so small. I feel like it could get boring pretty quickly.
