They merged. It wasn't a buyout or takeover.

It’s never a merger. From an organizational hierarchy standpoint, there is always an acquirer.

This seems like a ploy to “shelve” it and have it create a sort of aura/curiosity in the comic book realm so that it has pent up demand and “excitement

If WBD takes a tax write-down for ‘BATGIRL’, they will never be able to release the film through a monetisable method.

This means they will legally not be able to release the film on HBO Max, in theaters or sell it to another studio.

Well, they're now known as Warner Bros. Discovery. Doesn't sound like Discovery is calling the shots.

Discovery is definitely calling the shots. There's some huge rumors going around that tomorrow's presentation could be the death of hbo max.

These rumors are getting out of hand. They might add a "Discovery" to the HBO Max name, or frick with the pricing or the deals with cable/sat providers, but there's no way they're going to kill one of the few streaming successes in the industry. Especially when their future success will depend not on cable but on streaming content.

There is no way in hell it's worse than Catwoman and that got a 3k theater wide release.

Catwoman had an Oscar winning A-lister headlining and there was no expectation from audiences for an interwoven DC universe. They were betting on HB putting butts in the seats.

I feel like we need a deeper article on this tax write off. It sounds like a weird loophole that needs to be fixed. I know hollywood has a lot of funny money accounting tricks but this seems especially egregious

ETA not that I’m on the edge of my seat for Batgirl or anything.

They are rapidly canceling things across all WB owned platforms, not just HBO. Also sorry but Discovery is essentially in charge. The Discovery CEO and the people he brought with him are the ones making these decisions.

The AOL merger circa 2000 helped kill a bunch of shows and companies under the Warner logo including WCW, which was sold for a pittance after losing its time slot.

They didn’t want wrestling on their lineup, period. They turned their nose up at the idea of having it on their time slots. However they could have sold it off to literally anyone else for quite a lot of $$$, but they instead chose to sell it to Vince McMahon for pennies. Makes you wonder what backroom deal was going on behind the scenes.

If I was black I feel I'd be annoyed that instead of creating new things, they have to adjust existing stuff to pander/cater.

I dont know, just seems like it's lazy and offensive to all parties involved to change well established Characters

For your average woke whitey, this reasonable assessment is ignored every time. It doesn't matter if most black people are annoyed or offended by the pandering. The only thing that matters is how it makes woke whitey feel.

I'm betting this was supposed to come out after the flash and now that the flash movie is in purgatory, it'll make absolutely no sense.

They have Keaton's Batman and Simmons' Gordon in it. And it probably looked like a CW production.

The Discovery CEO (who is calling all the shots, not Warner) killed it to save the brand. They are going all in on the Rock's Black Adam and JSA as the new franchise.

HBO Max Quietly Removed Six Warner Bros. Streaming-Exclusive Movies

Warner Bros. Discovery has been quietly culling content from HBO Max — including several Warner Bros. movies that were exclusively streaming on the service — in what appears to be an effort to cut costs.

Within the past few weeks, at least six Warner Bros. movies have been removed from HBO Max: “Moonshot,” a sci-fi rom-com starring Lana Condor and Cole Sprouse; artificial-intelligence dystopia comedy “Superintelligence,” starring Melissa McCarthy; Robert Zemeckis’ 2020 remake of “The Witches,” starring Anne Hathaway, Octavia Spencer, Stanley Tucci and Chris Rock; comedy “An American Pickle,” starring Seth Rogen as an immigrant who wakes up after being pickled for 100 years; Doug Liman heist pic “Locked Down” with Anne Hathaway and Chiwetel Ejiofor; and drama “Charm City Kings” from director Angel Manuel Soto.

To be sure, streaming platforms continuously add and remove content. What’s unusual is that Warner Bros. Discovery did not announce the removals of the six WB streaming exclusives from HBO Max. (The movies are available to rent or purchase through third-party VOD services.) Also worth noting is that “Moonshot” was pulled from HBO Max only about three months after its March 31 debut.

I mean did I completely under estimate the foot print Discovery has or something? Seems odd they're calling the shots post merger. I figured it was just WB swallowing them up and adding their content to their portfolio

Hollywood is abuzz with speculation approaching Warner Bros. Discovery’s first quarterly earnings since becoming the nation’s No. 2 entertainment giant on Thursday. Multiple insiders told TheWrap they expect Chief Executive Officer David Zaslav to announce a major restructuring of marquee streaming platforms HBO Max and Discovery+ during its results or soon after.

The move will result in a gutting of HBO Max, significant layoffs for its executives and staff to minimize redundancies with HBO and a combined streaming service with Discovery+ with a harder line separation between the scripted and unscripted content operations.

i don't watch whatever that is, but maybe it's good that Discovery, the company that allows Mike Rowe to exist, is taking over operations.

Here's just some guy's take.
