Killens BBQ in Pearland. Not too far from Hobby.

Yeah, only an additional 30 minute roundtrip out of the way. But I agree. Not too far compared to Katy.

To answer your question, I stop at Taqueria Del Sol off of 45S when I’m wasting time to catch a flight. Google says they close at 10:45pm on Fridays. It’s been around forever. Not the best ever but it’s a good local spot. For better go to Original Ninfa’s or El Tiempo east of Downtown, but neither one of those will be a quick meal. If you’re staying near Hobby don’t leave ANYTHING in your vehicle. That area is sketchy af.

Leave early enough to eat at Ninfa's on Nav. No brainer.

So, what's the deal with the one that's basically right near Hobby? Is it no good, or is it more a location issue?

I’ve never been to that location but I think it’s not the same ownership as the Navigation location. Back in the day there were numerous independently owned franchises, that’s probably one and the quality is not the same most likely. In that area I’d bet most locals would go to taqueria del sol.

At 8PM, it's maybe 10 minutes from Hobby.

Do you think the OP's too stupid to navigate his way 7 miles? It's not like someone's expecting him to get a voter ID.

I work in the area. The one near Hobby is fine, honestly. Pretty run of the mill tex-mex type stuff. You'll get way better food at a way lower price at most of the little taquerias near there, but they're not as easily accessible. You won't get shot on the way to the door or anything, but there is typically a sizeable homeless encampment under the I-45 bridge right near there so it is advisable to hide anything in your car under seats or in the trunk.

The original location is a similar menu, but much higher quality in terms of prep and execution of dishes. You'll get handmade fresh tortillas no matter what Ninfa's you go to, though.

Older guy worked there for years and ended up buying it. He’s still in there with his apron on, you’d never know unless you start talking to him.

We have a location that’s close by and the area is getting worse, hotels can’t stop vehicle break-ins.
