In London, I usually get a car service to get to and from the airport but I have done a taxi before with no problems.

Uber got their license back a few months ago, right? Could always do that, or take the train from the Paddington station.

The two times I've been there the train has been pretty seamless.

Where you leaving from. I’ve taken the taxi and they are quick. Cost more but it’s worth it.

Check with the hotel if they offer something, I've had luck with my hotel offering me service via a sister hotel in their ownership group

That’s not that early OP, you are talking about getting there about 8. That’s rush hour time, so keep that in mind.

The Heathrow Express from Paddington was great for a direct train, or you can take the tube from Paddington, but it has other stops.

There is a tube station in the airport. Last time I went we took the tube from the airport and it dropped us off a block from our hotel. We did have to change lines one time. This is easy provided you don’t have a ton of luggage.

How many people do you have? Just one or 2 adults? My opinion if you have kids, is to just get there extra early and hire a cab or uber. You can call the day prior to set it up, I say extra early so you can beat traffic, plan on having breakfast in the airport, and just make it as easy and reduce stress.

If you are single or just you and the wife and close to a tube stop or Paddington, certainly that's an option too and very good one.

We often take a train in during arrival and a cab out for the early flights. Just easier to cab it.

Yep, but check the status of the train the morning of and have a backup plan. London's trains are in chaos just like the airlines and train workers have been doing 1-2 day strikes.

The Tube from inside Heathrow to my hotel (within a block), also took the Tube from my hotel to the other airport (Gatwick) when flying to Ireland.

Not even a question - Heathrow Express to Paddington. Non stop (maybe 1?) in about 15-20 minutes.

Car or tube (regular subway) is about an hour.
