yea not having govt subsidized oligarchy controlling the industry that gets bailed out for bad practices

And not having a dumbass failed mayor who barely shows up for work as your transportation director

We had an Envoy flight few weeks ago and pilots didn’t turn APU on until we pushed back. Gate power was not working. We then sat for 20 minutes before getting IFR release and starting the engines.

No APU, no external power, and no engines running? How was the airplane powered?

Because pilots and flight attendants start getting paid once they leave the gate

Dunno about flight attendants but aren't pilots salary?

Internal battery power for about 15 minutes. We pushed back to get out of the way and had to use APU. It’s gotta be the crews trying to save fuel costs.

That’s when people start to realize they are claustrophobic….and some panic.

you need high pressure air to start the engines, either from the APU or a start cart, plane is powered electrically before boarding, if the APU isn't available for AC at the gate, conditioned air is plugged in to the aircraft

no way in hell, that is the furthest possible consideration at that point

I sat in Tucson on the tarmac in June a few years back for 1 hour. I had been drinking the night before and was there for work so in slacks and dress shirt. I was sweating bourbon. Told the guy stewardesses either I was getting off because he chose to allow me off or I was getting off because the cops came and pulled me off. I didn’t get arrested.

Did that in Dallas for an hour and a half...it really sucked

We had to do it for a similar amount of time back when they were being mask nazis. A whole family got kicked off midway through for flipping off the flight attendant who wouldn’t get off their arse about masking while we simultaneously had no AC.

Like someone else said, refusing to let people off of a plane while it’s delayed is hands down the dumbest thing airlines do and frankly it shouldn’t be allowed.

Pro tip:

If you punch a flight attendant they get you off the plane pretty quick.

Tbh if I was stuck on a hot plane with no A/C for 6 hours with a bunch of people I don't know or like. I'd probably start crying as well.

Congress did pass a bill. I helped a friend move to NYC and they bought my ticket to fly me back home. I'm broke college kid just trying to help a friend out. I was stuck on a plane for 8 hours before take off. I wasn't getting off the plane cause I would have had to buy new ticket. Ended up sleeping in Charlotte airport which was 60 degrees with a blanket that was 3 foot by 3 foot. I didn't have that type of money... And then 2 years later the bill was passed.

First experience flying. Airlines suck arse.

it's frustrating as hell to be sitting on a plane that's not moving, I hate it too, but a lot of these tales are greatly exaggerated, usually by people that don't fly very often and don't understand what's going on, it helps if the crew keeps them informed and updated during these delays, another thing is that there is a huge difference between American Airlines and American Eagle, they're not one and the same

The wife, no pics, and 3 year old daughter flew from Houston to New Orleans for the weekend to see her family and by the time it was all said and done, it was the same time as driving.

How is this allowed? If you left a child or pet in a car for 6 hours with no ac in Charlotte, you’d be charged with a felony.

777 can you explain in these situations where they are stuck on a tarmac for hours why you can’t just deplane? Is it some type of fed regulation or what?
