Psych is better than Cheers
I like Psych... But c'mon, its TWO guys with no social life. Episodes are mostly just Shawn imitating a fast talking Ferris Beuller, too cool for school adolescent.

I think Psych’s writing is consistently pretty brilliant and the acting excellent. There are a few weak episodes, but the references / parodies / timing is absolutely top notch.
The Psych movies are not all that good though.

I'd rather watch the Phil Hartman episodes of Newsradio over almost anything not named Seinfeld.
That's just a fact.

Its a really good show, favorite and fun and I love the references but...its not in the realm of Cheers when it comes to sitcom heiracrhy.
The writing is quips, and frankly no meaty ensemble cast.
No build-up to a joke (like I linked, thats a 2 minute wait for the punchline in Cheers) they created a story to get to Norm!
Cheers writing and execution of acting was just fantastic. It respected the audience intelligence to stay with the long joke.

It's funny how much I agree with you on the M/TV board and disagree with your sports takes

If we're talking pure actual laughs...
Three's Company and I Dream Of Jeannie (after Year One) are absolutely hilarious. Jack Ritter was so underrated. And so were Larry Hagman's comedic chops.
Cheers, Taxi, Seinfeld, Wings, King of Queens are all quality, but must people use the, "It's smart" as "funny" criteria?

You get a couple cheers crossover episodes with norm, cliff and frasier.

The dialogue was great, but the actors’ delivery was always PERFECT. That, along with the diversity of characters, really set Cheers apart.
Which made it just fricking fun. Not all sitcoms are fun even if they're great. I mean the first Season of Seinfeld isn't fun...just interesting. Long dialogues.
Cheers was zippy. Classic sitcom.
Its the Casablanca of sitcoms when it comes to dialogue and delivery.

Uhmmm....how is this possible when Cheers HAD Frasier and a better ensemble?
I believe it was season 5 before he was fully integrated on the show and Shelly
Long was still around...perhaps it's best season ever.

I would put Cheers in the top 10, at least for its first five seasons. It went considerably downhill in the latter half of its run.

The reason why I posted the Norm joke to show how amazing the writing was that even the writers said...writing Norm's basically cold opens was there had to be a big joke but there was no context.
"The writing with the greatest degree of difficulty was writing an entrance for Norm," Cheers writer David Isaacs tells EW as part of our examination of perfect TV punchlines.
"He would always come in and they'd say, 'Hi, Norm,' and then the running joke was the question, so: 'How you doing?' 'What's up?' 'What are you up to?' And then you had to write a joke from Norm's 'my life is just nothing' attitude to fit that, which is hard because it's like writing a joke from nothing. You don't get a running start because it's not coming out of context, it's not coming out of the conflict or situation, so you have to write a joke by itself."
Basically, his bit never really had much to do with the storyline of an episode...but it was a hit with audiences. The writing in Cheers is better than Seinfeld because Seinfeld jokes relied solely on situational comedy that sometimes took forever to build...while Cheers gave you a laugh a minute clean 30 minutes of what sitcoms are.,,watch, laugh, move on with your life.,,instead of discussing the position of a button on a shirt for 5 minutes.

Bro, This is the real reason
Cheers set in the period of the images in the intro would be great. If done right.

Jeez, you people bring up Seinfeld like it is not the most overrated sitcom in the history of sitcoms. It has it's moments but is no where near the greatest.
