Ratings rose when Woody joined. It sucked that Coach died, but I don't remember anyone hating Woody.

Not sure where you’re getting this. Nicholas Colosanto died. It’s not like he was fired. Woody was a seamless addition. I don’t remember anyone being upset. And I watched it from the premiere on.

One of my favorite scenes was when the owner who sold the bar to Sam comes in.

He’s talking to Sam about how everything has changed and then says “just ask norm” as norm walks in from the pool room and asks him for a beer as if he never left.

Then woody walks up and says something that makes the old owner look at Sam and say “coach’s boy?”

For someone to hate him in that role, I’d think it would come from seeing a lifetime of Harrelson in a wide array of dramatic and sometimes disturbing roles, and then seeing him in Cheers. No one could’ve guessed that the lovable young innocent would go on to the career he’s had.

I saw this episode three days ago and remembered the joke before Sam said it. Haven’t wanted Cheers regularly for years and years.

I was born in 84 so obviously I didn't watch Cheers until long after they stopped making episodes. Diane annoyed the shite out of me too.

It was pretty much her character's job and Shelly Long carried the series the 1st two seasons.

The comedy rapport between Sam and Coach was better than Sam and Woody.

There is some truth to that. Seems on the show, coach was Sam "Mayday" Malone's actual coach when he played for the Red Sox. So they had a previous connection in life.

never said he was replaced

But you did say people didn’t like it and at least 2 of us don’t remember it that way.

That’s obviously subjective, though I don’t disagree but again what were they supposed to do ? The comedy rapport with Sam and Diane, was much much much better than Sam and Rebecca too.

My personal favorite and one you never hear about is the Drew Carey Show. It got terrible once Kate left but before that awesome sitcom
