Got tickets to the concert in Houston, was curious if anyone has been to any of their other shows yet and how was it?

That is hilarious. They are playing here in KC tomorrow night. Kinda wanted to go but will be doing bowel prep instead for colonoscopy. Kinda what he sounds like.

I’m going to the Arlington show strictly for the people watching. From YouTube footage it looks like Poison is stealing the show. Vince is still fat & an embarrassment. If I would have told you as a teenager in 1988 that Poison would be the best live band on this bill I would have laughed in your face.

Here's a review from their show at Wrigley on 7/8 ( LINK):

quote:

In retrospect, perhaps Mötley Crüe should have reconsidered. Understandably, the four original members who took the stage in the wake of an exaggerated intro punctuated by throat-choking clouds of sulfurous smoke no longer resemble their youthful bad-boy selves. But time has also taken a harsh toll on the band’s abilities. Ironically, the oldest member, guitarist Mick Mars, seems to have changed the least. Thin, pale, and quiet, he still resembles a vampire that just awoke in a coffin. Primarily sticking to the shadows, Mars executed his parts with a competency that frequently served as the glue that held tunes together.

If anything, his instrumentalist cohorts, drummer Tommy Lee and bassist Nikki Sixx, overplayed. The duo repeatedly generated a muddy, bass-dominant rumble that devoured the contours of songs and saturated the mix with an indistinct sameness. They slowed down several well-known songs, including a deflated “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away)” and dulled “Looks That Kill.” And they suffocated the sass, sleaze and sway out of music that once threatened to give bystanders a transmissible disease if they got too close. Mötley Crüe’s bash-and-crash approach also functioned as a camouflage for Vince Neil’s screeching vocals, which have seen much better days.
Watching Neil trudge around was almost as uncomfortable as listening to him try to sing. During verses, he often failed to project over the din of his mates. Or he simply gave up, choosing to hold the microphone stand away from his mouth and toward the audience. Unable or unwilling to break from a tedious walking gait, he lacked enthusiasm in the same ways Mötley Crüe hurt for chemistry. For Neil, the 80-minute set amounted to a chore, a task to get through rather than a chance to entertain. His out-of-tune vocals on favorites such as “Home Sweet Home” and tendency to duck backstage for breaks couldn’t help but raise questions.

Indeed, the few bursts of energy came not from Neil or the now-tame Sixx but three female backing vocalists/dancers that did the heavy lifting on many choruses.

Along with Mars’ greasy riffs, the trio largely carried “Dr. Feelgood” and “Girls, Girls, Girls.” But nothing masked the fact that the band demanded fans fill in too many blanks with memories.

Def Leppard opted for a different strategy. Afforded a huge stage, the quintet — whose ranks count three original members plus two guitarists, Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell, who have been in the band for decades — kept it simple. Save for a backdrop wall of tall screens, extended drum-riser platform and fancy lighting, Def Leppard skipped the frills and focused on music. Though aware its largest successes belong to the past, it sounded and acted like a band that still enjoys playing together. What it lacked in showiness and toughness it made up for with balance, control, sharpness and fun.

No Crue fan, but that's what you do in a three piece rock band.

Vince Neil was no better in 1987 on the “Girls, Girls, Girls” tour.

I wouldn't. They've always been needlessly maligned and massively underrated. They cranked out numerous anthems still in heavy rotation (deservedly) and always had the goods.

I saw the New York show and had an absolute blast. Sets were longer than expected. Poison was great, Motley was fun as hell and put on quite a show on stage with dancing girls and all kinds of stuff going on. Leopard was actually my favorite and they were the last one of the three I was excited about. All in all very cool and worth going. And they all 3 played every hit they had. So that was also pretty awesome.
And I think the best was seeing all these aging fans getting off the subway dressed like the 80’s in cut off shirts and Jean shorts. People not knowing of the concert were scared lol.

Yeah they bring it every single time. I was at the Milwaukee show on Sunday and I think this is the 8th time I've seen them. Say what you want about the songs but anyone who says Poison still to this day doesn't put on a kickass rock n roll show every time they hit the stage doesn't have a soul. Still I wouldn't say they stole the show. It's still light out when they come on, they only play 7 songs, and they stupidly have a drum solo and a guitar solo in addition which is a huge waste of time when instead they could fit in another actual song or two.

Overall it was a really good concert. I didn't think Def Leppard was quite as great as the Chicago reviewer said. Not sure what this dipshit was watching but they definitely didn't "skip the frills." (watch this & tell me it's frill-less "Hysteria", Stadium Tour Orlando )
I saw them on the Hysteria tour in '88 an it's still one of the best shows I've ever seen. But the middle third or so of their set this time was pretty dull IMO.

But yeah, it was a lot of fun. Glad I went.

That’s the most hilarious thing I’ve seen in quite a while. The missus actually checked on me to see what was so funny.

Are Joan Jett & the Blackhearts not on the bill yet? I know they will be playing in Houston. It'll be my 9th time seeing them live. At 63 Joan can still bring it.

There's a band called Classless Act that opens. In Milwaukee the doors opened at 3:30 and they went on at 3:55 and only played for about 15 minutes to not very many people. And then yeah Joan Jett played to a half filled house. Good set, 12 songs I think.

I don’t know why the old guys that are clearly and obviously not up to snuff insist on getting out there. Why be remembered for such shitty performances? Is it just the money?

I saw the show in ATL. Every band was awesome except Motley Crue. It was not a band issue, but a sound man issue. The bass drum was so damn loud you couldn't hear ANY other instrument nor vocals. We were on the floor and moved back towards the sound tent. The low end was so pronounced and overpowering I thought my eardrums were going to rupture. One of the pyro techs was standing next to me by the tent and I suggested to him if he gets the chance he should float the issue out to the MC management people of just how bad it was. FYI - I'm not some layman. I used to run live sound for bands with with a sound company ...and for those that went to Auburn I was the sound guy at the Supper Club.

Big Crue fan but would only buy tickets if it were Def Leppard alone. DL still plays music that sounds like their studio releases.
