Old friends that went to jail/prison

A couple weeks from now I'm probably going to see an old buddy of mine that I haven't seen in quite some time. He's not a complete scumbag by any means but the man has also never been one to make good life decisions. He's been out of prison for about a year now -- he didn't do anything to me or something that is unforgivable.
Thinking some of you fellas probably have similar sorts of people in your lives. Definitely already have my detractors who think it's stupid to hang on to an old friendship that is well past it's prime.

In my book, going to prison is an easy qualifier for the title of scumbag

I don’t have any of those.

One of my friends from hs was a real solid dude, the best wing man I ever had. However, he went super deep into alcoholism after hs (both his parents died while he was still a teen). He eventually ended up racking up multiple DUI's, one of which resulted in a fatal crash for several children in the other car. I'll probably never see him beyond the walls of a prison again.

no one is ever the same person after spending time in jail
he isnt the guy you used to know so dont be naive about that.

I don’t think I have any real friends or family who have been to prison. I also spent 18 years in public schools in some of the poorest and most crime ridden parts of the country,
so naturally I have quite a few acquaintances who are doing time.

I have several. 6 guys and a girl I grew up with. All did long bids for drug trafficking. I ran in a bad circle back then. See em now from time to time on facebook and they seem to have all gotten it together. Except 2 guys and I think they are institutionalized at this point.
I also don't live in that state anymore so that helps.

Ditto on public school. I've seen quite a few acquaintances go to jail and that's nothing but this was a best friend.
Dude had a total crap upbringing. He did honorably serve our country until his shitty drug brain caught up with him.

One of my good friends from college did like 10 years for selling drugs. We used to party together and used a lot of recreational substances together back in the day. After college he moved to Atlanta and got involved in slinging major quantities of X in the clubs. Got busted and did about 10 years. He's out now and living a quite, normal life. I would gladly see him any time he came to town.

I had a Sunday School teacher who went to Fed prison for financial fraud.

I had an uncle (Mom's brother) in for a few years but he was no friend and he deserved to be there far longer.
It was not as much the half-kilo of cocaine or the pics of him snorting it with a barely clothed 16 year but also that the girl was part of a politically connected family. He was a high ranking official at his public agency so he he got to do the perp walk on what were then just the three broadcast stations. My mom and her two sisters were saints and did not deserve that POS.
When he got out, my father arranged for him to be able to move out of state and informed him if he ever came back to the state, he would be caught doing something where his suspended life sentence portion of his sentence would kick in.
My mother and her sisters have since passed as has his brother who was a highly decorated Navy Seal before they called them Seals. I check every few months praying to see his name in the obituary of the city in which he now lives.

Gay Busey in The Firm says something like…. She was 16, looked 24, and I did 8-10.
