I know a ton of cops. Most don't shoot that well. If I have to depend on me or a random cop to make a shot, I'm taking it. If I get to pick any cop, I got a few that I'd be insane not to let them take it.
Some cops are really good shots and even better under pressure. Most aren't. Check out the shoot out between the Kehoe brothers and a couple of cops at point blank range.

Good for this kid, and I hope he doesn’t get into too much trouble.
I am entertained, however, by all the people whining about the press reporting that the mall prohibited the presence of firearms. Like it or not, it is a relevant fact.
It is humorous to see the same posters whining about the press omitting facts if they want to see them (e.g.photo of original shooter), but also whining about the press presenting facts that they do not (e.g. mall firearm policy).

No, they are not. It would have been their complete responsibility (mall security) and it would have been 50 dead instead of 3 dead. With 3 dead, they can get by with changing out the floor tiles. 50 dead and they would have to tear down the mall.

But I disagree with DB’s sentiment. The mall is private property. They get to set the terms for entry upon that property. You have the option of shopping elsewhere if you dislike the rules.
Either you respect private property rights or you do not. This thread tends to indicate that most here do not.

Someone above asked about civil immunity. It appears the Indiana law provides absolute civil immunity in cases such as this. See Indiana Code Sec. 34-30-31-1(1)(b).
