Favorite international trip?

What’s the most memorable/best international trips you’ve taken ? There are so many places I still want to see as my travel outside the US has been pretty limited. Mrs jkyle and I recently decided to include at least one international trip per year (more if finances and time off can be worked out ). On a lazy day off with 100 degree temps outside I often find myself searching the internet high and low for destination ideas for years to come. I’m slightly embarrassed to say I have a rough idea of where I’ll be going all the way through 2025 or so which I’m confident will change a half dozen times between now and then. Where are your favorite places or bucket list destinations ? I value y’all’s opinion more so than some ad infested site I find on google. Thanks in advance.

Thailand for me was incredible, I haven’t been to as many places as others on this board though. Currently sitting in a lounge waiting on a flight to South Africa for a safari so we’ll see how that stacks up.
Italy and Japan are both towards the top of trips I want to take next off the top of my head.

Thailand is one I was looking at today. Didn’t realize how beautiful of a place it is. Did you feel pretty safe in Thailand ? I’ve kinda read mixed reviews on danger over there for tourists.
South African safari sounds amazing. I’ve thought about a Rovos rail or blue train (may messed up the name) for a future trip.

It was great, my wife and I went there for our honeymoon.
Spent a couple nights in Bangkok which we loved and think it gets a bad wrap, then took an overnight first class train north to Chang Mai and did the jungle, temples, elephant sanctuary, rented a scooter, etc. then flew down and did a couple of the islands just relaxing and doing the “honeymoon” stuff. Ended in Krabi and a great resort. Place had it all.

Lots of people will give you more obvious places (hey, I love Rome too), so I will drop a couple of less obvious places.
The Azores: The main island of Sao Miguel has a number of stunning views, Angra do Heroismo on Terceira is my favorite small city in the world, and climbing Mt. Pico was amazing. There are unique foods, 500-year-old Spanish forts, and friendly people.
Jordan: snorkeling coral reefs in the Red Sea from Aqaba, the strange desert beauty of Wadi Rum, floating in the Dead Sea, 800-year-old forts from the time of the Crusades, the amazing Roman city of Jerash, the place of Jesus' baptism in the Jordan River, Byzantine mosaics in Madaba, and Petra. Yeah, Petra absolutely lives up to the hype and then some. And Jordan is the only place that I have ever picked up hitchhikers while driving, as it's incredibly safe.
In Mexico, I really like Puebla, a colonial city that's kept its charm. And mole sauce is amazing. I want to go back there a third time just to eat.
In the Caribbean, I like Barbados, because they have a great culture and it's easy to avoid the touristy stuff and join in it.
I'm also a fan of the little Honduran island of Guanaja, for a unique look at the "Old Caribbean" and great diving.
Staying close to the US, the "crystal maiden" in so-called ATM cave in Belize is one of the most spine-tingling things that I have ever seen.
I really enjoy hiking, and some of my best hikes were at El Chalten in Patagonia and on the Routeburn Trek in New Zealand.
That'll do for now, I think.

Egypt: specifically Luxor & Valley of the Kings, & Aswan. Definitely not a summer trip, it’s best done December -January as the temps get insane. Cairo/Giza for the pyramids and museums. We literally spent the entire trip in awe of everything Ancient Egypt.

Pretty close between Bali and northern Italy, each for different reasons.

Zimbabwe/Botswana/South Africa - all 1 trip.
Amazing sights and vibe
Great weather
It really helped me put things into perspective at just how good we have it here in the USA

Favorite city- Paris (My wife’s is Venice)
Favorite country- Italy
Favorite itinerary- A week at a Tuscan villa, a couple of days in Florence, then train to Venice.
Most memorable moment- April 15, 2019 We witnessed the fire at Notre Dame right from the beginning. I started a thread and posted about it here that night.

My wife and I have done both and both are very high on our favorites.
I'll never understand not liking Bangkok. We loved it. The neon noir vibe and Murray Head.

Can’t believe I forgot Bruges. Amazing city that’s clean and the beer was like champagne.

We keep it simple-England. We love London but we also love getting out into the villages of the Cotswolds. Small towns like Woodstock are ideal for us. A close 2nd is the Normandy area of France. We love visiting Bayeaux and the surrounding towns.

Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Beautiful scenery, friendly people and cheap prices. Slovenia is awesome as well but we did that on a separate trip with Croatia and Hungary. I wouldn't do Budapest again, although I enjoyed it and Croatia is swamped with tourists now.

I'm a big fan of Dinant, Antwerp, and Ghent over Brugge to be honest
