re: Egypt experiences

I just visited this past December and had no problems. I have been to Egypt numerous times and neither myself nor my teen daughters have ever been harassed or touched by anyone. Opportunists of all sorts are numerous but it’s very easy to ignore them, keep your hands in your pockets and do not engage. Peak tourist season is very busy and can be chaotic but good planning should help. If one doesn’t have a personal connection in Egypt a reputable agency/guide is absolutely necessary. Uber is super convenient and cheap if you know where you want to go.

The ancient sites, Valley of the Kings, Luxor & Aswan, Nubian Village & Abu Simbel can all be done via Nile cruise or bus depending on preference.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is now open in a limited capacity with one fantastic exhibit, Tutankhamun, being offered. However the hall of statues and building itself is phenomenal and worth the visit. I’m not sure when they will move the mummies and other exhibits from the downtown museum which was the plan originally. The museum looks out at the Pyramids of Giza so those could be done at the same time.

I was there this past July. It’s HOT! The sea is absolutely beautiful, snorkeling and diving are amazing. It wasn’t my favorite area of Egypt but for an all inclusive resort visit it was super nice.

Khan Academy for sure! They have lots of tutorials for grouping/regrouping and pretty much any concept the class is covering for each grade level.

Egypt: specifically Luxor & Valley of the Kings, & Aswan. Definitely not a summer trip, it’s best done December -January as the temps get insane. Cairo/Giza for the pyramids and museums. We literally spent the entire trip in awe of everything Ancient Egypt.
We flew AF last week out of Houston to Paris. Flight was delayed a bit, no issues otherwise.

CDG is a mess as well right now. Our connecting flight was delayed about two hours and the airport is a bit chaotic with summer travel. Hopefully it will be better next summer as someone else said.
If you are in the Houston area there are several Harris County Public Libraries providing passport services. We have used them the last two times our children have needed a new 5 year passport rather than the postal service. At the end of January, it took us two weeks to schedule the appointment and received the passports in three weeks time. As long as you have the application completed, birth certificate, SS card and both parents it is painless and quick. They can take the pic for you as well which is helpful with an infant.

We typically go yearly for family visits. Cairo and the surrounding areas are amazing, minus the traffic! The Grand Egyptian Museum is scheduled to open in the fall of this year (supposedly), which will be worth the wait. Definitely coordinate your trips with a tour company and go during fall and winter months. If this will be your one and only trip to Egypt consider adding Luxor & Aswan to your itinerary. It’s a short flight from Cairo and a nice change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the city not to mention some of the most amazing sites in the world. (I enjoy Cairo but LOVE the smaller less congested cities)

The security has greatly improved and the president is in fact focused on getting tourists back which has made travel from the states a pleasant one.
Yes, we had our PCR test 24 hours prior to flying back from Cairo as well with no issues. We did have to provide the negative tests several times in Frankfurt before our flight back to the states.

Going to Cairo it’s negative PCR within 96 hours. The timing of the test has to be valid from wherever one is flying from in Europe or elsewhere. There were lots of folks who weren’t allowed to fly to Cairo as their tests fell out of the 96 hours and had to take a PCR in the airport and await a later flight. Lots of pissed off travelers.
Just returned from Egypt with transit through Frankfurt. QR code for negative PCR test was not required by Lufthansa or Egyptian medicals upon arrival. We used CVS services for testing and had everything printed as well as saved to our devices.
96 hours is the important part of the testing, they will not let you board unless the timing is correct!
