It literally smells like a cross between shite and rotten eggs. How in the frick do I fix this problem on a budget?

If it occurred by no fault of your own, then look for municipal workers doing work on a main water line. Here in our part of Gods country, our inept workforce forgot to install the divider for potable/nonpotable water in the line when they laid new piping. So a 3.8 mill dollar project ruined by a thousand or so $5 pieces.

What sort of tank do you have? Maybe your tank and/or lines have some algae growth in them. May try hitting the tank with a dose of chlorine. You may also have sulfur in your water which can also be treated with chemicals.

You are probably catching whiff from your drain when you run the water.

Water goes in, air wafts up.

When I run a lot of water we get that smell from ours. It’s not an always thing though.

Whole house filter maybe? Want to say my neighbor used one for that reason.

Did this start happening suddenly? Your foot valve may need to be replaced. Our water started smelling bad and we tested it, everything came back normal except for very high alkalinity. Then one morning we woke up with no water pressure and our foot valve had worn and needed to be replaced. Now the water doesn't smell anymore.

Drop some chlorine tabs down the pipe, then flush entire system.

I bet it feels really slick as well. Soap foams up so good it's hard to wash out?

This is very common in Louisiana. We have a lot of "soft" water with sulfer if it's coming from a well.

It is sulfur. You've hit a point in the water table or something changed in the well that has introduced sulfur into it. In the old days they would just start using the water on a garden and such or just cap it and forget it. The well at what used to be my grandmother's place is sulfur water. That well is still there, technically, but hasn't been used in 50+ years.

Now, it is easier to deal with, though. Google "How to remove sulfur from well water". There are various ways.

Drain your pressure tank, blow some air through it and then refill. All will be good again.

I have a family member with a well very high in sulphur and iron. I thought I was taking a shower in blood and rotten eggs. Truly horrible. They have since installed a very expensive whole house water filter system.

That's hydrogen sulfide you are smelling and it is predominantly in well water. Chlorine will neutralize it, so will activated carbon filters.
