The whole house filter is great from water coming out of every faucet as well as filling the pool up with soft water which is way better for the pool hardware.

This along with the gas tankless water heater with recirculator are my favorite things on the house.

The architect was basically just doubling down on disclaiming it. He didn't design it, so he's specifically saying he's not responsible for it.

Dollars to doughnuts he or someone he worked under got sued somewhere along the way over some kind of RO system and that's in their boilerplate now.

Water softener and undersink filter for coffee/dog water. Water softener (live in West Houston) is more for the appliances than anything else. The basic carbon filter you stick in a fridge is more than sufficient, however, make sure you change it. Anything that gets wet will eventually grow microbes, particularly around the seals, and that will somewhat change the flavor of the water (see: Legionnaires' disease) but is unlikely to cause you any real harm due to the small volumes involved.

If the water out of the sink tastes fine, or your ice out of the fridge tastes fine, don't mess with it. If you're on well water or something odd, maybe you have a need for it, but muni water is safe (in TX they have to send us water quality reports once or twice a year.)

When you start removing harmless minerals from drinking water (Calcium, Magnesium, etc.) by over filtration, there can be knock down effects (you feel the need to add more sweetener to iced tea because something is missing, you drink more water than usual because of a lack of thirst "satisfaction" etc.)

I spent years as a kid in a state that had water so soft it smelled like sulfur, so we drank a lot of kool-aid to mask it. There is no issue (not including hard water which isn't a health problem) with drinking water where anyone isn't on a well if you're not in a democrat hellhole like Michigan.

I’m looking to get a whole house system. The tap water in NOLA concerns me. I’ve done minimal research (ie just read the water quality reports) but something about getting our water from the Mississippi, and all the shite that follows down river, just doesn’t sit right.

How do they do on removing chlorine?

Great. Prior to, we couldn't drink the water out the tap. Now there is no difference between our fridge (filtered water) our RO system water, and our sink water.

I did it mainly because my wife liked to bitch about the bath water smelling.

I'm sure it will also make a huge difference on our appliances. I just changed the filters for the first time. The amount of bullshite in them was pretty disgusting.

I put in a home water system by Chief 6 weeks ago. What is unique about this system is that it can be back-flushed about ever month or so and you don’t have to change expensive filters or add chemicals.

Lots of people in my area have them and thought highly of the product.

It shouldn't. You're not going to survive in that city long enough for polluted tap water to be a serious concern.

We have the Rain Soft EC5 softener with R/O filter under sink for drinking water. It was expensive as hell but keeps the ol lady from bitching about water quality.

No, but I’ll tell you this, fwiw. I’m building a house, and the standard specifications that the architect uses has a clause about water filtration. It says something like, If a water filtration system is installed the Architect takes no responsibility for any health or safety consequences.

Not a helpful comment imo

Look at all the not-so-subtle brags from people with indoor plumbing.

CuZn UC-200 Under Counter Water Filter - 50K Ultra High Capacity - Made in USA

I got this one because of the good reviews and it can last up to 5 years. Currently on year four and I can't detect any shitty taste. Of course, our water is pretty damn good except for the chlorine that is added to the water. It filters the kitchen sink cold water and refrigerator ice maker. And the water flow is the same as without the filter as far as I can tell.

I use one of the filtered pitchers because I like having cold water available all the time.

ETA now that I’m thinking about it. Anyone used a chiller unit?

I used to use some filters that mounted in a plastic housing under the kitchen sink. They always worked very well scrubbing out pretty much both chlorine and all other taste and odors. Trouble is, after ten years or so, every one of the damn housings cracked and they leaked. As a result, I now just buy good filters for the refrigerator and change them on schedule. I be sure to fill all drinking, cooking, and coffee water from the filter. This method is cheaper and I don’t have to deal with that leaking.

I have a whole house high efficiency filter with UV sanitization. I do not have to worry about a boil water advisory. I also have an RO. Love it.

Culligan water of Southeast LA can come test your water and tell you exactly what you need.

If not properly maintained it could be a source of bacteria.

When y’all are saying sediment, what are you referencing? Because drinking water specs are less than 0.1 NTU leaving the facility.

Are y’all on well water?

We have a whole house Culligan water softener that uses salt.

Had to replace the original one after 20 years. Cost over $2k.

Wife wanted it but i worry about the salt screwing up our piping etc over time.

I think it made our dishwasher parts rust out as well.
