It'll take a few cycles of getting burned by the Brock Berlin and Spencer Rattlers of CFB to put this on ice.

This is called getting while the getting is good.

Its not sustainable for any program boosters to hand out million dollar deals to high school kids.

This shite has gotten completely out of hand. Players should be able to get paid only once they are on campus. NIL deals should represent a players worth. Jalen Rashada is a 17 year old who has proven nothing. If in two years, he’s a stud, and the stater at Miami, then yes pay him what he’s worth via advertisement etc. But a bidding war on 17yr old kids is absurd lol. These kids are essentially free agents at this point.

The ncaa and its member institutions allowed this

No they didn't.They fought the entire concept in 2 different lawsuits and lost both rulings

They had literally decades to figure out some kind of payment plan for players and what did they do?

The O'Bannon lawsuit was filed in '05 and decided 10 years later

payment plan for players

What type of "payment plan" were they supposed to implement? Details please...and if you think it woulda stopped any of these lawsuits ya don't know attorneys/sports agents very well.

NCAA deserves to catch heat for a ton of the stupid shite they've done through the years but they ain't the fall guy hear

Honestly. The market is gonna figure it out. There will be two years of boosters making stupid financial outlays like this.

Then after they see the busts and the risk level becomes to high, they will pull back the resources and instead focus more on the transfer portal cause it minimizes risk.

Also. Jimbo will be the first HC victim claimed by NIL after he doesn’t even win the west over the next 2 years.

Pay for play is not a new concept. It’s been a topic of discussion/debate for as long as I can remember. Smart leaders would have been proactive and had at least a little bit of foresight.

It’s not my job to breakdown a complex issue. It’s the job of school presidents and ncaa execs making millions to figure that out. And yes, I do think it would have eased the lawsuits and it certainly wouldn’t be the clusterfrick it is now.

A cut from jersey sales or something like that

But this whole leveraging other schools NIL deals against the others and upping your price to attend

Frick this. Also it’s gonna cause some locker rooms to mutiny . The 8 million dollar freshman not playing as much as he thinks he should , threaten to transfer to play more .

I hate it

Okay? What exactly should they have done? Whatever they chose was gonna be a drop in the bucket compared to NIL sugar daddies and collectives.

Not even close and the clusterfrick was gonna happen with or without whatever imaginary plan you came up with for athletes to be compensated.SEE COA stipends and remember ANY payment plan
implemented by the NCAA or schools HAS to be Title IX compliant...talk about a
clusterfrick

Again, this isn’t my job. I’m not a lawyer or a executive at the ncaa. The people in power are tasked with that job…crazy I know, expecting leadership to navigate complex issues.

They chose to sit on that horseshite “student athlete” term and hoped it would all blow over like it always had since the 50’s when they created it to avoid liability for a player that died on the field.

How is this even sustainable?

There have to be NBA all stars not making this much from random companies.

We’re about to watch Pringles give a kid who transfers 3 times more money than Klay or something.

Saban isn’t doing this
