Whoops.

During a recent unveiling of the new Chevy Volt, Zimmerman demonstrated for the media how the supposedly “green” vehicle is simply plugged into a power source for energy. And this power source, at least in Michigan, is mostly burned coal.

A man in a suit pulled out the giant plug and waved it in front of the cameras, prompting laughter from the press, before inserting it into the Volt. A journalist then walks up to Zimmerman to ask her about the power source behind the plug.

“Because everybody thought we killed the electric vehicle, and we didn’t,” Zimmerman told the questioning press with a confident smirk.

“So what’s charging the batteries right now? What’s the source?” one member of the press asked in response.

“Well, here,” Zimmerman answered. “It’s coming from the building.”

“I mean, what’s their mix of power?” the press member then responded.

“Oh, actually Lansing feeds the building. Lansing feeds power to the building, so I don’t know … I’ll bet you they’re a bit of coal, oh they’re heavy on natural gas, aren’t they?”

J. Peter Lark from the Lansing Board of Water & Light, the power company Zimmerman was referring to, quickly cleared up the discrepancy.

“Right, it would be charging off the power grid which is about 95 percent coal,” Lark told the reporter.

In other words, nearly all of the energy used to power electric vehicles in Michigan comes from burned coal, which is far more polluting than the internal combustion of normal gasoline.

Government fricks up everything it touches.

I can’t think of a worse product than ethanol. Bad for engines, the economy and the environment.

We needed a 5 year study to tell us the crappier gas that costs less and offers less performance than its ethanol-free counter part is bad? Who knew?

Remember back in 2010 or so when you could get the alternative fuel tax credit for buying any vehicle that was flex fuel capable? Government is so good at wasting money.

Farmers are making serious bank with ethanol. The vast majority of ethanol manufacturing is actually owned by local farmer co-ops. This is to get the state subsidies.

It is NOT going away anytime soon.

A lot of green shite we do is bad for the environment. But the “party of science” will ignore this particular science

Converting thousands of acres of farmland into solar panels is bad for the environment

Wind turbines kill a shite load of birds.

Not only are the above worse for the environment they are horribly inefficient and more expensive. We talk about food prices and grain shortages yet the simplest quickest fix to alleviate this is to stop dumping corn into ethanol production. Use it for cattle-chicken feed. Cost of feed goes down, meat prices can go down.

Our most environmentally friendly electricity solution that is highly efficient and cheap is Nuclear and natural gas.

The renewable fuel standard is up for review next year. It looks like this is an attempt by the USDA to get the requirement struck down because it's stupid (the EPA knows and has known this), and focus more on advanced biofuels (which it should have in the first place). Ethanol was Obama pandering to leftist lobbyists at the expense of the world. It is his version of the disaster that was MTBE.

none of this shite is ever about being better for anything, its about the government getting more control.

Too late to get rid of it now.

Congress found a way to pay off farmers, and the network that’s in place is more important than the climate change scam.

Ethanol has caused some of the best parties I have ever been to. I guess the scientists of the study were not invited.

I thought it was about decreasing dependency on foreign oil? I wasn’t aware that it was sold as better for the environment.

It is never about the environment. Never was , never will be.

It is about money and control.

In the case of ethanol the corn farmers give Politicians millions of dollars
