LSU has no infield depth. So If they were the best players at their spots, best believe they will play immediately. And if they are as good as advertised, they will find a spot for them somewhere

He also has 2 full years of at bats. If this year in college baseball has taught us anything it’s experienced players are a major asset to a lineup. Look at the teams in Omaha. Outside of Oklahoma it’s a bunch of lineups with a ton of experience.

I see this a lot. What does it mean? No, I’m not one. I use nasonex when congested.

So he's not allowed to continue to improve? Not everyone is going to hit .320 every year of college. I guess I don't understand writing him off while you've seen him take a sizeable leap from year 1 to 2 on offense. I would probably expect more power to come around year 3. The trend would tell you he's getting better, not staying the same.

JT was not the worst hitter in our lineup. I guess depends on what you prefer but I would rather have had him up in a big spot than Jobert, and it's not even close. Honestly, being the worst hitter (.286 avg) on a team that hit close to .300 as a club isn't really an insult.
Im looking at more that batting average, because its flawed. By OPS and the amount of pitches he sees in an at bat, he is the worst in the lineup this past season

He hasn't done it, and we have 2 years of tape on him and so do other teams. Again, that would be great, but who knows.
He literally told you the areas in which he improved from year 1 to year 2. Also, the only statistical categories in which McManus or Jobert have better numbers are HR and slugging %.

I agree BA is flawed. I guess back to my original point, why are we treating his stat line as an insult? Even on the best team ever someone is going to have to be the "worst" hitter on the team by statistical standards and I just don't see his numbers as bad. He may not have had as much power as Jobert, but he was a better all around hitter, easily.

I just don't understand begging him to stay. And, in answering the OP, I wouldn't be shocked to see him in the portal...because he really hasn't done anything to make Jay beg him to stay.

He literally hasn't hit .300 with 12 bombs and fielded .950. Literally.

Who is begging him to stay? If he wants to go then he can go. I think most people in here are saying Thompson has a role on this team moving forward even if it isn’t at SS.

Milazzo is going to have to be that guy, and the next worst hitter better bring a bit more than Thompson has so far.

If nobody is begging him to stay, then it shouldn't surprise anyone if he's in the portal.

This is going to be Kramer 2.0. He could come back and be great and there will still be a portion of the fanbase that says he is terrible and as soon as he goes in a slump they will be screaming how they were right.

I usually appreciate your insight but I think you're missing the point here. Nobody is stating they will BEG him to stay but what's the downside of wanting him on the roster? Experienced player that is more productive than most give him credit for. You have 3 holes on the infield, it's not like we're just missing a SS and he's the odd man out. For what? So we can rely on maybe starting two true freshman on the infield? I just don't see the upside to letting him leave because you think the team is littered with talented depth, it's not. Having experienced players like JT with 2 years in the SEC under his belt only helps the team, imo. You all are treating his stat line like he hit .200 and struck out half his ABs. Kramer Robertson was the worst hitter I had ever seen for 2 full seasons at LSU and then hit over .300 his last 2 years. I just don't see how you can look at the trend and ignore the improvement.

It won't be me. I want the best for every kid that steps foot on the field. If Thompson can do it, do it. I'd love nothing better.

You want him to stay because you try to keep the best players on the roster. We are losing several infielders and still need depth. You think we wouldn't try to keep our starting SS for the past 2 years?

The OP is asked if we see Thompson in the portal. I'm answering the question. And, explaining why it wouldn't surprised me or scare me. It's turned into why Thompson shouldn't be processed. I didn't realize we had so many Thompson fans.

Also a scenario in which Pearson or Dugas take an infield spot to open up an outfield spot.
Did Pearson play any INF in high school? I know Dugas did and played some 2B his freshman year here. I honestly though Dugas should have been moved to the INF this year and Morgan to the OF (before his knee injury).
Posted on 6/21/22 at 10:27 am to UpToPar
Yes, Pearson has played some 2B as recently as last summer, maybe even in scrimmages after getting to LSU.

You also said that he was the worst hitter in the lineup, which is easily debatable, and made up some assumption that he was being begged to stay.
