Yoda and the Clone Wars era Jedi Council were really not competent at their jobs at all

Palpatine ran circles around them.
In the episodes where Ahsoka is on trial they showed almost no logic or critical thinking at all.
Then they were pretty much served up evidence of Order 66 and it went right over their heads.
No wonder the Jedi were pretty much wiped out under their leadership.

yep, cant argue those points
they did some sort of attempt to explain with yoda saying "clouded the dark side is, hard to see it is"
but that was a weak explanation for jedi who can see the future, and have the power to tell when someone is lying, yet they are taken completely by surprise without any clue what was happening.
another point is in almost every story vader can sense and know when a jedi is near, yet this gets gets overlooked by the story when they are sneaking passed him to do stuff. if he can sense obiwan then it stands to reason he can equally sense luke as well, yet he cant until luke has his full powers

I just started the High Republic series of books and it shows how incompetent the Jedi were by the start of the clone wars. (So far it’s really good btw).
You have networks of Jedi across the galaxy reaching out with the force to influence cosmic events, etc. you had lightsabers being used as more than a weapon. There seems to be a bunch of stuff going on

I generally agree. but it makes sense that its easier to sense a jedi that is more powerful. and maybe its easier to sense jedi you are more familiar with. otherwise it might just be like a general disturbance in the force idk

Yoda was the Bill Clinton of the Stars Universe
Everyone loved him, but, in hindsight, everything fell apart under his watch because he was a pacifist retard

All the more reason Ahsoka is one of the greatest Jedi of all time, even if she never had a chance to pass the trials. She was always quite intuitive compared to the others

Agree about Ahsoka. Glad she survived 66, the rise of the Empire and the rebellion.

I think what Lucas wanted to portray but they just did a poor job of was the passive, outdated, and obnoxiously bureaucratic beast the Jedi Council had become at that point.
The prequels told a pretty good story, just executed it poorly.

They had lost their way, and none of them saw it.
Those who did were punished.

I always had the impression that Palpatine had the ability to hide or cloak his powers. It's part of what made him so powerful. He was the child of aristocratic and always had to put up a front while being mentored. The Sith were being executed on sight. They had to find ways to hide their powers.

Their incompetence pushed Anakin into becoming Vader. Their doctrine of “no attachments” was needless and led to much suffering in the galaxy. Anakin was having nightmares about losing a loved one, and the Jedi response was “learn to let go.” When clone wars showed that Obi-wan was passive while his love was murdered right before him, you understand Anakin even more.
Luke in the OT was more open to attachments against the advice of yoda and Obi-wan, and it was good. It made him stronger. It saved his sister, his friends, and his father.
I really thought the new trilogy was going to address this, and have Luke being balance to the force in this way by incorporating emotion and some dark side ability into a new way of the force, bringing balance. The trailers hinted at that with “it’s time for the Jedi to end.” It seemed promising that he had learned from his experiences and would improve on the old Jedi ways. Instead of course we got The Last Jedi.

There's two sides to this. For one, the Jedi Order of the PT was essentially fat and lazy. One thousand years of having virtually no opposition in the galaxy or any real serious conflict had them all pretty soft and ill-equipped to handle a resurgent Sith.
Likewise, the reason the Dark Side is so strong is because the entirety of it is centered around two people whereas the light side is disseminated amongst thousands of Jedi.

The Jedi deserved what they got. The Galaxy was better off under the control of the Empire for the average citizen.

My only thing here is that there was a reason the Sith lived by the "Rule of two" and it was to prevent being uncovered.
They wanted to stay extremely hidden. With only one person really knowing the full extent of the plan, how were the jedi supposed to catch them lying? No one knew what to lie about...except Palp and he was stronger with the force than pretty much all of your basic jedi.
With all that being said, the council was awful. They did absolutely nothing right. They made rash decisions pushed onto them by the chancellor. Playing right into his hand. Ingenious plan by him honestly.
There was a reason the two best Jedi's they had were considered "trouble makers" (Obi and Qui Gon)

I don't know what all is cannon at this point. But I liked in the clone wars they always showed that not only the Jedi and Sith could use the force. Lots of force sensitive people of varying power that were not on either side.
Even with Dooku, I don't think they ever called him a Sith. Just an ex jedi. I think Palpatine had a hit squad that used the force, right?

Vader did; so did Kylo.
Sidious may have? I know Vader's were obviously called Inquisitors....Kilo's were called the Knights of Ren.
As far as cannon hit squad for Palpatine....Vader was pretty much it that I know of. He didn't need much else.

Agree 100% - I was super disappointed in Yoda especially.

She had the version of Anakin in this series that we were fricking entitled to have in the actual movies. In the animated series, he was exactly how he should have been portrayed.
