Water is one of the most powerful forces in nature.
It may be paused, but it is inevitable. We fool ourselves in to thinking otherwise.

Do they not build bulkheads in that part of the country?

The man just launched his new houseboat.

Agreed. Went canoeing on the Buffalo River in Arkansas a few weeks ago, and even in very shallow currents, it's incredible how powerful the water is. And if you get a foot/leg trapped between the current and the boat, you feel it immediately. With the amount of people we saw flip that weekend, it's amazing more people don't drown in natural rivers every year.

In the west along the banks of high gradient rivers it's best not to build houses.

We did a 3 night/4 day 52 mile canoe trip down the Buffalo River last year. Tough at times, but great adventure. Great memories!

A different view of the same house
and other photos showing the destruction of the road system.
A lot of the roads were built back in CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) days in the Depression. A lot of the bulkheads built then have held up to the flood, but some of the failures are due to the river path changing.
Compared to rain in places in the Gulf Coast, that part of the park was reported to have gotten two inches. That can't be right.

It looks like that house committed suicide

It was bad enough they had all entrances to Yellowstone shutdown as of yesterday. Multiple roads washed out and bridges.

It’s a wonder that hydroelectric (in new forms) isn’t being pursued more.
Imagine what the Mississippi could create if we could harness even a fraction of it’s power

Yeah... saw another video of it hitting a bridge downstream. My wife's family is all in that area.
