Smokers

Over the past 6 months I’ve gotten into smoking meats. I’ve slowly gotten better over this time and I’ve finally nailed what works best (for me). I have a BGE and it’s very limited -space- to how much you can do at a time. I need a smoker so any recs on brand and if any store has a sale on one at the moment?

I have a large Weber Smokey Mountain that's great if I have to smoke for a lot of people, but takes too much charcoal if I just doing one slab of ribs, a small brisket or pork butt. In those cases I just use my Weber Kettle as a smoker and it works very well.

Order a RECTEQ pellet smoker/grill online, and don't look back....

Soak chips in water before you smoke. Throw them on top of the lump charcoal.

My large 26” Weber is the most versatile pit in my arsenal. Smoke meats holding consistent temps up to six hours using snake method and it easily fits a whole packer brisket. Or bbq or grill at higher temps. It does it all and won’t break the bank. I haven’t seen many for sale at big box stores, so would probably have to check specialty bbq stores or order online.

I have a 36” master built vertical propane smoker. Can feed an army with that thing and it won’t break the bank to purchase. I can probably get about 30-36 hours of smoking time off of a propane tank.

I have two. An 18” and 14” Weber Smokey Mountain. Also have a Weber Performer. Use Kingsford Blue bag and various woods depending on what’s being smoked.
Once you get these WSM dialed in it’s pretty much set it and forget it.

Your first decision is whether you want to stay charcoal or switch to pellet. That is a very big crossroad to decide. Your BGE is giving you a char flavor that pellet will not achieve. In my opinion char vs not it is a bit overrated (smoking elitists will argue this). It sounds like you are content with charcoal, just need more real estate.
If you want a more automated charcoal, mostly set and forget, checkout Masterbuilt Gravity.
When I converted over to pellet, I came down to RecTeq and Camp Chef. I ultimately went to Camp Chef because of their Sidekick propane burner. Mine is Woodwind 24" + Sidekick. They do make a 36".
I would think a lot of companies are doing Father's Day deals. You will just have to search around.

I have a fairly large reverse flow offset that produces quality food. I purchased a traeger a little over a year ago just to see what the fuss was about and for convenience. Most people that eat my BBQ prefer what comes off the traeger vs. the offset just because you taste the food along with a hint of smoke. I have had food off of a gravity feed masterbilt and it was phenomenal.

Have you considered selling your BGE and adding the profit to the $600 to purchase a bigger ceramic? I have the Primo XL and it's pretty spacious. At least it keeps you cooking on the ceramic and it will last for a long time.

Trust me, stay away from traeger!!!!
I currently have the largest kamado joe. It’s got tons of space!!
