Anybody plan on buying a car this summer?

Wife is needing something larger/safer for our growing family.
The car lots are empty and prices are still high. What’s everyone’s plan? We’ve been putting this off for sometime but I gotta pull the trigger this summer.
Yikes

Was able to get a Denali demo from the owners wife in April. But they didn’t move much. Prepare yourself

I would treat it the same way I would buying any car- decide budget, amenities, etc, then start shopping and see how closely you can match your budget to what you can find.
Deals are still out there, they’re just harder to find right now.

I’m waiting on the ‘23 Toyota Sequoia to come out. Plan b) would be to look at the diesel RST Tahoe if the prices come down due to high fuel prices.

Plan on buying a new vehicle next February/early March. Hopefully some of the supply chain issues will have lessened by then. I’m in the process of selling some of my collectible vehicles now. I’m selling now because I feel like the market on a couple of them is “toppy” and I don’t want to have an economic downturn to cause potential buyers to vanish.

Somehow I’ve managed to make it this far without ever having to buy myself a vehicle from a dealer. Been car shopping at a dealer once for my wife’s car. I know it’s not the specific advice you’re looking for, but long story short, let her decide on car, then go back alone to finalize. Good luck :)
Would recommend car max for selling her current vehicle if that helps- they bought for significantly more.

Cars are all ridiculously safe these days. Unless you have more than 3 kids and only have two rows in current vehicle, wait. Put them three across the second row for short trips and rent a minivan for a vacation

I can second this. I regret the day I ever told my wife to call a car dealership. I was too busy and thought, “what the hell.”

May not be possible but I would wait until supply and demand rebalance. Best to negotiate from position of strength.
My uneducated guess on when that will be hunches at least into 2024.

Try to wait until spring of next year, if possible. That’s when a lot of dealers are expecting the supply to catch-up and you should be able to find some deals.

We're waiting on the 2023 Sequoia also but I'm going to try and hold out until next spring or summer if possible.

I started looking last July, now seeing if I can wait until early next year

You should be able to get some off MSRP, just not the amounts in the past, and if you are trading in, max your trade in amount.
