Yep.

Do what you can to prepare and protect your family, and then trust in the Lord as it all falls apart. And it's going to fall apart.

It tells me there's a lot of boomers on here that think they're superior to Millennials.

That's because, for whatever faults they have, Boomers ARE superior to Millennials.

My motto is, it takes 2 weeks to hire them, two weeks to train them, and two weeks to fire them”. Just fire them and keep looking. It’s much better than keeping a bad one.

Man, have you got things bassackwards. Because many of us boomers didn't have that sheepskin we were more than willing to learn in order to maintain a job. We were trainable because we didn't act like we knew everything about everything like these college graduates do nowadays. It's hard to train someone who thinks they are smarter at what you are training them in than you, the person who is doing the training.

It's like a right-handed person telling what it's like to be left-handed to a left-handed person.

People of a younger generation understand their worth and refuse to be exploited in a lot more situations than previous generations. You basically said this yourself in the OP. You cant fire them because there is no one to replace them. YOU need to change the way you hire and train. Pay more for less, because in the past you were getting more for less

Agreed. I'm responsible for about 20 of them in the military. All they do is bitch. When I start screaming at them, they start to cry. Pussies.

Anybody have a whiz-bang successful approach to managing these millenials?

Create an app. They are too busy living in their "E" world and do not have the slightest clue how to function in the real world without their phone and apps.

Millennials are between 23 and 40 years old at this point. They're not that young any more.

You mean someone that requires no training? Stop being lazy and train your damn workers. This is why people hate boomers. Boomers entered a corporate world that didn't even require resumes, college degrees, or fancy digital applications and they also were trained within their company.

For the most part they are untrainable. Don’t do X with full explanation of why the policy is in place and explanation of expectations with how to meet them. Next day? They did it their way and attempted to justify why and claimed they had no idea of what would happen. The useless generation. And Zoomers are not looking much better. No ability to focus on the task at hand, more worried about a side hustle than the job in front of them.

I don’t miss it at all. Explaining to a kid that this was a British colony so a good many folks speak English was fun. And then explaining that the US was a former British colony when they start talking about how bad former British colonies are.

Worth is based on what you bring to the table for a business.

You have to tell them that their life depends on them doing a great job - then carry out the threat.

If anything they greatly overestimate their worth. What I did was very controlled and standardized. There really was no grey area. It was either right or wrong and they just couldn’t be relied upon to do it right. Always wanting shortcuts. And despite great money and easy (if you did it right) work they always wanted more money, shorter stints, nothing different. One of the things we were expected to do was support troops while training. Sometimes that meant overnight support. It was in our contract. They would spend days complaining about it.

Coffee shop where I go always has 20 somethings working. She treats them great. They stay awhile and are always hard working and professional.
